Happy Star Trek Day! 🖖

I started going to Star Trek conventions in 2021. At my very first one, I was struck by how much I had in common with everyone I met and how we all shared this incredible passion for something that has meant so much to us.

Since then, I’ve gained an extended family—a unique group of friends I look forward to seeing every year. Every year, I count down the days until I get to be with them again.

My only regret in all of this is that I didn’t start going to these conventions much, much sooner. When I was younger, I held myself back because I was afraid of being judged or ridiculed for embracing this part of myself so openly.

Looking back now, I wish I hadn’t cared so much about what other people might think. I missed out on years I could have spent being part of this incredible community.

But I’m here now, and I know I’ve found my people. I’m grateful for every friendship, every memory, every laugh, and every adventure we’ve shared—and for all the ones still to come.

Happy Star Trek Day to my extended Trek family. Here’s to many more years together.

Live long and prosper. 🖖❤️

Well, that’s a wrap. Another showcase in the books.

I think this was my eighth showcase with Rae Studios, and somehow they just keep getting better.

This year’s piece was Mawood. We put it together in just eight weeks, with about ten extra hours of rehearsal added along the way. It was an ambitious project, and there were moments when the dancers had to trust me before they could fully see where I was headed.

Truthfully, I had to trust myself too.

When you’re building a piece week by week, you don’t get to see it from the audience’s perspective. It wasn’t until our tech rehearsal, with the lighting, costumes, music, and the full cast onstage, that I finally sat back and thought, “Okay… this really works.”

I’m incredibly grateful to this cast. They showed up prepared, stayed engaged in the process, and were willing to take the journey with me.

I also want to acknowledge @raestudiossf What Jessica Rae, Diamond, Sarah, and the entire team have built is truly impressive. For a small arts business to fill the Palace of Fine Arts with more than 700 audience members is no small feat. Every year they continue to raise the bar, creating opportunities for dancers, teachers, and the community to come together and share their work on a beautiful stage.

Thank you to everyone who danced, worked behind the scenes, and came out to support us.

Until the next one. ❤️

Second @raestudiossf Showcase Belly Dance Perfomance Workshop 🩵

Two years ago, I was doomscrolling at 3am and scrolled across mesmerizing belly dancing videos on Facebook. At the end of this internet rabbithole, I asked myself “What is stopping me from becoming a belly dancer right NOW?” Because I had no answer, I Googled “belly dance classes bay area” and the rest was history 💙

While I started learning belly dance under a different teacher, I knew months before moving to SF that I wanted to perform and that I wanted to learn from @andreasendekbellydance at @raestudiossf 🩵 And I’m so proud and lucky to have done that for the second time with these talented dancers at @palaceoffineartstheatre for 700+ people, the biggest audience I have ever performed for 🩵

I’ll never forget the moment we hit our ending pose on stage and the audience cheered so loudly. It was the moment we had all been working for for two months, and the feeling of pride, joy, happiness, and finally achieving something you put your heart and soul into 🥹 A feeling that can be summarized by “We fucking did it!!”

Thank you to @andreasendekbellydance for being the best teacher and choreographer and trusting us with your beautiful vision for Mawood, my fellow dancers for being so sweet and amazing to dance with, @jackdedobb, Steph, and my parents for all showing up to support me in person 🩵💙🦋 I am very very blessed 🥰

Went to the Academy Museum last week. Mainly to check out the JAWS exhibit. If you have a chance to check it out, you should definitely go. There's a bunch of other exhibits as well as film memorabilia spanning from different genres, decades and regions.
