Black Men in Education—You are needed! ✊🏾

Did you know that in WA State, Black men make up only 1.3% of the teacher workforce? We are here to change that.

Join me for the Brothers in Education Summit on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Whether you are a classroom teacher, coach, mentor, or counselor—your presence matters. Let’s connect, build our capacity, and make sure our students see themselves at the front of the classroom.

Thank you, @morehouseschoolofmedicine, for welcoming the Y.E.C. of @build2lead to campus!

We traveled from Seattle to Atlanta with six brilliant young scholars who are committed to their futures. During our visit, we had the privilege of hearing from incredible leaders—Drs. Kevin Smith, Geary Franklin, and Ngozi Anachebe—whose words challenged our students to dream bigger, lead boldly, and start pursuing those dreams today.

Through the @moreincommonalliance, Washington State students accepted to Morehouse School of Medicine have the opportunity to complete their first two years in Atlanta before returning home to the Pacific Northwest for their clinical training. We were also inspired by the amazing MiCA Ambassadors, who gave us a campus tour and shared their journeys as medical students.

This is what building a pipeline looks like. We are bridging the gap, creating opportunity, and growing the next generation of Black and Brown physicians who will serve the Seattle region and beyond.

What keeps BEC going is simple — YOU!!

Without your volunteerism, your in-kind support, and your monetary contributions, we wouldn’t be able to make the kind of impact we’ve made over these past years. And we don’t take that lightly.

We’re asking for your continued commitment. In full transparency, we need your Time, Talent, Treasure, and Teamwork to build a long-term, sustainable future for our youth and families.

This coalition has been recognized as a valuable resource by the community and partner organizations alike, and that only happens because of YOU.

BEC Family,
can you help us right now by resharing this post or adding it to your story? It takes 10 seconds and means everything.

If you’d like to donate or get more involved, the link is in our bio. You can also DM us directly and we’ll get you connected.

We’re building something that lasts.

Leading with purpose. 💛

Honored to facilitate a Dance Therapy & Social Emotional Learning workshop at the Build2Lead event—thank you to Build2Lead for having me and trusting me to pour into your youth. Creating space for young people to move, express, and process in ways that go beyond words is powerful work.

Through movement, we’re building confidence, emotional awareness, and leadership from the inside out.

This is more than dance… this is healing, growth, and empowerment in motion.

Build 2 Lead (@build2lead), an organization working to empower youth through civic engagement and workforce development, recently hosted a three-day Melanin and Medicine event in Federal Way, Washington, providing young people a direct pathway to explore medical careers. The event connected students with practicing healthcare professionals who hosted workshops and provided job shadowing opportunities.

Founded in 2020 by Executive Director Jimmy Brown, Build 2 Lead aims for youth, particularly those from Black and brown communities, to see themselves as future leaders across sectors like healthcare, criminal justice, and education. The ultimate goal of Melanin and Medicine was to ensure every young person believes they can pursue a professional career, regardless of their personal or financial circumstances, Brown said.

Community activist Deaunte Damper (@dampeyalife1) emphasized the strategic importance of Build 2 Lead, saying that underrepresented youth drive the organization’s core message. "Black health matters, Black health professionals matter, and above all else, Black youth, your health matters,” he said.

## 🚒 South King Fire | Community Spotlight
Last week was nothing short of inspiring! We want to extend a massive **THANK YOU** to every student, mentor, and partner who joined us for the latest **Melanin and Medicine** event. Seeing our community’s youth engage directly with BIPOC healthcare professionals and first responders reminds us why we do this work.
Melanin and Medicine has officially become a cornerstone initiative for our partners at **Build 2 Lead**. This program is vital for:
**Direct Connection: ** Linking Black and Brown youth with mentors who share their lived experiences.
**Career Pathways: ** Opening doors to both traditional and nontraditional medical and emergency service careers.
**Workforce Access: ** Providing tangible opportunities for mentorship and long-term career success right here in King County.
To the future doctors, nurses, paramedics, and firefighters we met: **The future of healthcare looks bright because you are in it. **
"Empowerment isn't just about giving a speech; it's about providing a seat at the table and a clear path to get there."
Huge shoutout to **Build 2 Lead** for their incredible leadership and for allowing us to be a part of this journey. We are proud to support a more equitable and diverse future for our workforce.
