What can I say about AIPAD it has becomes a living scrapbook for me.

I spoke there in 1996 on Wm Hunt’s

The Joy of Collecting, that panel my life changed wildly.
I met people from all walks of life. Some looking to record
the world or change it with their photography. This is Builder Levy who created a ongoing series about
the coal miners of Harlan County Kentucky which fascinated me, The series shows sharp social contrasts
and changes in one small town in this country. It ends with strip mining being progress.Anyway it reminded me of visiting my grandfather in Harlan in the fifties, around five thinking he was John Henry.Years later I got a chance to speak and curate an article for SxSE on the Appalachian region and Builder’s was one of the stories told

THE GREAT BUILDER ...

It was an immense pleasure to meet renowned Photo - Journalist photographer Builder Levy, this past weekend, at the fantastic Photography Show held at the historic NYC Armory - Upper East Side.
Builder Levy, is an immensely gifted photographer, with an archive of incrediably powerful images.
They say “ pictures speak a thousand words, his images certainly do, and beyond.
I found him to be a modest, sweet, charming man, who has a deep love for humanity.

“Photograher Builder Levy’s ‘Appalachia USA’ does for today’s coal miners what Walker Evans did for the sharecroppers and tenant farmers in the Dust Bowl” _ Vanity Fair

Historic beyond measure this transition of power culminates a bitter presidential campaign which witnessed a insurrection and attack on the U.S. Capitol while Congress was in session. Former. president trump, the only president to be impeached twice leaves office as one known to have incited his base to attack a sitting Congress. 'Humanity in the Streets. New York City 1960s–1980s' by Builder Levy

'Humanity in the Streets. New York City 1960s–1980s' documents the resilience and power of the multiracial humanity that Builder Levy experienced in the streets of New York during these decades. At that turbulent time, people around the world were struggling for freedom and independence and throughout the United States people were marching in the streets to demand improvement in their own conditions.

This exhaustive monograph gathers pictures that Levy took during the Civil Rights and anti-Vietnam protests in the 1960s, the peace march that was held in 1962 in response to the Cuban Missile Crisis; the poverty-ravaged Brooklyn of the 1960s, 70s and 80s; the inner city communities where he was a New York City teacher of at-risk adolescents for 35 years; Martin Luther King at Reception in 1968 after the W.E.B. Du Bois Centennial Tribute at Carnegie Hall where he gave the keynote speech; and marches and demonstrations in support of the Freedom struggle; for a NYC civilian review board and to stop police killings; for quality education for all NYC children, and against NYC school segregation.
