How much can you really afford to build or renovate?

It's one of the first questions homeowners ask, and one of the hardest to answer.
Join @buildplaylive and @Westpac at the Sydney Home Show at 2pm this Friday for a practical conversation about turning renovation and building plans into reality. From understanding borrowing power and setting a realistic budget, to navigating approvals and avoiding common pitfalls, sharing the insights that can help you make smarter decisions before breaking ground.

If you've got a project on the horizon, this session is designed to help you understand what's possible and plan your next move with greater confidence.

Building or renovating is one of the most expensive, emotional and permanent decisions most people will ever make. And somehow the most important part of it, choosing who actually builds your home, usually comes down to three quotes you can’t compare, a few rushed site meetings and a gut feeling.

I’ve sat across the table from clients in that exact moment. The quotes look the same. The builders all sound lovely. Nobody can tell you which line item is hiding the variation that blows the budget six months in.

Speed Date Your Builder™ changes that.

One room. Hand-picked, independently vetted builders. Facilitated conversations, so you meet them properly and compare like with like. You walk out with a shortlist of people you’ve actually spoken to, a clear building pathway, and the skills to read two quotes that look identical and see where they differ.

And the person behind it is @buildplaylive ‘s Kribashini Hannon, one of the most generous, smart, kind and tireless people I know in this industry. We have partnered on many projects, and I have seen countless times where she has saved the day. She has caught on-site errors in the drawings. She has saved clients ridiculous amounts of money. She takes zero commissions, which in this industry is rare and worth saying twice. Her loyalty sits entirely with the homeowner.

What she’s building here goes truly beyond an event. It’s the start of a more honest, transparent industry. Homeowners arrive informed. Builders get matched with clients who suit the way they work. Fewer disputes, fewer abandoned projects, less waste, better homes that last. Good decisions at the start are the most sustainable decisions we ever make.

Kribashini, I’m so proud to know you and to watch this come to life. Australia’s first homeowner and builder matchmaking day. Of course it was you. 🤍

This week, John and Jane’s Beechworth turns four.

Every year around now, I stop and look back. The dream. The concept, the design, the construction... the highs, the lows, the curveballs, and honestly, loving every minute of it.

Four years on, we’ve welcomed hundreds of guests, collected just as many 5-star reviews, and met so many who keep coming back. We’re so proud of what we’ve created: a luxury Beechworth getaway where friends and families come together and make memories.

👉🏽 Do you have a coach or a mentor?

Coaching and mentoring often get spoken about like they’re the same thing but they do different jobs

A coach helps you think

They ask the questions that help you find your own answer, make your own decision and become more aware of what is getting in the way.

A mentor goes further into the business with you

They take the time to understand your offers, clients, positioning, goals and the actual problem sitting in front of you.

Then they bring their experience to the table, share what they can see, what they believe needs to change and the move that makes the most sense for you next

No generic marketing strategy

No copy and paste sales plan

No telling every person they mentor to post the same content, launch the same offer or build the same business.

The advice and solutions have to make sense for YOUR business, your season, your strengths and where YOU are trying to go

This was from a one-on-one session with @fitwithsally inside my Queen’s Table private mentorship

Yes, I asked questions

Yes, I checked in and made sure the direction felt right for her.

I also got SPECIFIC

I shared what I could see, what I believed needed to change and the strategies, solutions and connections that made sense for her business specifically

And this is something I don’t think enough people realise about The Queen’s Table, you’re not investing in a room and hoping the group conversations somehow answer what you need.

You get one on one access to me throughout the year, so we can get into YOUR business, YOUR decisions and the opportunities sitting in front of YOU

Because sometimes you need space to find your own answer

And sometimes you need someone who understands the whole picture, brings their experience into the room and helps you see the move you could not see on your own.

My calendar lost its mind 😂

The last 14 days have been FULL

Speaking, workshops, podcasting, mentoring, interviews, live events, virtual keynotes, conversations I’ve been waiting a long time to have and a whole lot of running (and flying) from one thing to the next trying to remember what day it is.

We also launched our live event in Miami with @Maha Abouelenein, Positioned. Paid. Published which is VERY exciting, the room is going to be next level.

And while all of that was happening, we were also packing up our lives because I’m currently en route to the USA with my family for the next two months.

So apparently my calendar has no intention of calming down anytime soon 😂

LA, Vegas, Boston, Florida, speaking, events, meetings, family adventures, road schooling the kids and a few things I still can’t talk about yet 🤫

There is A LOT more on the calendar

PS if you wanna join me LIVE in Miami 👉🏽 comment MIAMI

JACKSON Residence

A glimpse into my interior design work at MCM Studio.

Working alongside Kribashini from Build Play Live, we’re thoughtfully reimagining this 1960s blonde-brick home for a young family who have lived here for more than a decade.

The design centres on creating a more considered flow, improving the home’s everyday functionality and strengthening its connection to the outdoors -bringing the interiors into a more meaningful relationship with both the front and rear landscapes.

A considered transformation that respects the home’s original character while creating something beautifully suited to the way this family lives today.

Last night was epic.
We had more than 50 charities in a room.
Discussing the need for funding, connection, support, the right conversations, and the best audiences.

In other words, discussing the need for The Giving Table.

We're beyond thrilled to have launched our new charity membership and are so excited to see so many charities join us to create larger impact.

If you weren't in the room, don't get (too much) FOMO.
We'll be sharing the details of our new charity membership in the next few days.
