POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Tonight’s the night! ✨

Every Creative Block on our walls is an original, one-of-a-kind work by a South African artist. These aren’t prints. Each piece is under $300, and you can take it home on the spot.
Unlike the things we buy to impress people (the artwork says it best 😉), original art is a gift with a story. It’s perfect for the holidays.
🍷 Friday: South African wine, coffee, bread plates and cookies
🌭 Saturday: boerie rolls from 11 am
📍 @kuluntubakery , @east.dock · 900 E Clarendon Dr
🗓 Tonight 6–9 pm · Tomorrow from 11 am

Some partnerships simply make sense. 🌍

@kuluntubakery began in Cape Town before finding its home in Oak Cliff. Its name means “community” in isiXhosa, and it lives up to it.

@spierartstrust has spent years championing artists across South Africa through its Creative Blocks program.

Indibano Art Residency exists to connect artists in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Texas.

This weekend, all three meet under one historic roof at @east.dock for the @artwalkoakcliff . It’s a milestone for us, and a little piece of South Africa right here in Dallas.

📍 Kuluntu Bakery, East Dock · 900 E Clarendon Dr
🗓 Fri 6–9 pm · Sat 11 am–7 pm

**Some letters remind you exactly why you started. 🧡🥍**

Building LaxReach hasn’t always been easy. There have been obstacles, closed doors and moments when I’ve wondered whether I’m just a teenager in over my head. Then a letter like this arrives from @kingskidsbt King’s Kids in Blantyre, Malawi, and everything comes back into focus.

Watching these children pick up a stick for the first time, cheer each other on and play with pure joy didn’t just keep me going. It changed how I see life. They reminded me that courage isn’t about age or circumstance, and that none of us are defined by where we start.

Thank you, King’s Kids, for your kind words and for trusting us with your incredible children. You inspired us far more than we could ever inspire you. 🇲🇼

@artwalkoakcliff is this weekend, and we are pulling out all the stops!

We’re delighted to be partnering with @indibanoart to feature artwork by Southern African artists, including the @spierartstrust Creative Blocks, a unique collection of artwork and expression of contemporary South African culture.

We are baking more pastries than ever before, offering some of our favorite South African wines by the glass, and Warren & friends are braaing (BBQ) boerie rolls — it’s delicious, trust us!

Come on out this Friday for a little Kuluntu after dark or join the festivities on Saturday. We’re so looking forward to this soul-filling weekend and enjoying all the local art throughout @east.dock.

For a decade, Det-Zim, the Zimbabwe Cultural Centre of Detroit at Sadza Space, has been doing the slow, essential work of cultural exchange. It brings Zimbabwean artists to Detroit, takes Detroiters to Zimbabwe, and supports the writers, curators and archivists who keep the story alive.
Thank you, Chido Johnson and the Det-Zim family, for welcoming us. Here’s to building this bridge together. ✨

The headline is the price, but the bigger story is what it signals. Global collectors are competing for African contemporary art in the world’s top salerooms. For creatives across the continent, it’s proof that work rooted in your own story belongs on the biggest stages. 🌍
Congratulations, Portia! We’re so proud to celebrate you. 🇿🇼❤️

One continent. 54 countries. One stage in London. 🌍✨

This week, @154artfair returns to Somerset House for its 14th London edition, running alongside Frieze. Founded in 2013 by Touria El Glaoui, 1-54 has grown into the leading international fair for contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora, now spanning London, Marrakech and New York.

We’re especially proud to see Zimbabwean-born, Cape Town-based artist Lionel Mbayiwa (@baba_kupa ) showing with @spierartstrust . His bold cubist animals carry the Shona folktales he grew up hearing around the fire. 🐐🐂🐦

Earlier this year, Dallas artists Reuben Cheatem, Ebony Lewis and Andrea Tosten visited Lionel in his Cape Town studio on our reverse excursion. Seeing his work now on one of the art world’s biggest stages is what cultural exchange is all about. 🤝🏾

In London for Frieze? Live in London? Go see it.
📍 Somerset House, Strand
🗓 Through Sunday 18 October
