Day 15: I woke up late today to recover from the unexpected snow day, so I was playing catch up when we went to Shibuya to see the Pokémon Centre and Nintendo Store there. I successfully almost didn’t get lost in Shinjuku Station, which I feel is a rite of passage in this country, then took my equally important picture with Mewtwo. They sold Shaymin card sleeves and I grabbed some goodies from the Nintendo store, then we realised we were late for our Pokémon cafe booking and immediately had to stress uber our way there. I called the cafe in panic and used up my mobile spending cap and sent a desperate email before realising we were only going to be 5 minutes late and not the half hour we thought we were. Food was delightful and it’s always lovely to see pikachu!! After my matcha and snack Liv Chloe and I decided to do don Quixote so we E-Scooted there while the lads got pissed up in a yakiniku. I bought a bunch of shit then when we found the boys they were filming music videos and obviously had had a good time at the bar haha. Tomorrow is Kamakura, and I’m gonna have a hangover.

Day 14: Mt Fuji…? So the weather wasn’t great. In Tokyo it was pissing buckets and we had issues with certain members of the group with booking the coach trip but eventually we were able to leave Tokyo for fuji. We weren’t optimistic about the trip but after I looked up from my phone where I had been editing a TikTok for the past 20 minutes suddenly the rain had turned in to heaps of snow!! It was shocking how drastic and sudden the change was, it was like changing biome in a video game. The trip began with a tea ceremony where we got to mix our own matcha, followed by a lakeside view of the big patch of white sky where Mt. Fuji supposedly was. On the bright side, it was still beautiful, although several of us were wearing completely unsuitable footwear for the slush and snow. Thankfully no one fell and ate shit but it was a close call. The next stop was the famous Fuji Lawson which today was just a regular snowy Lawson, so we grabbed lunch there and ate it in a car park while I edited yesterday’s photo dump. After this we went to a gorgeous spring a little further towards the mountain which was again treacherous to get to, but the water was astonishingly clear and they had cute fishies to look at so I was happy. The trip was also supposed to have a cable car but snow and cable car unfortunately dont mix so I need to book a refund for that portion. The guide Irina was very friendly and helpful and she helped make the fujiless Fuji tour a lot better. Afterwards some of us went back to the hotel but me and team girlies went to Harajuku. This place is like Japanese Camden, over priced and over commercialised, but it still has some soul left. I picked up a couple items and raided a Daiso, as well as visiting a couple neat looking shops like — that’s decorated to be the Kitschiest house I’ve ever seen. We finally ended the day at a Kura Curry since Andre hadn’t had it yet and headed back to the hotel to die quietly. I think I have a cold coming on, wish my luck fellas <3

Day 13: Sky Tree and Akihabara. We slept in. Woke up so late we almost missed our Kirby Cafe booking we worked so hard for. Last time I was here we went to the one in Fukuoka so it was a delight seeing the Tokyo location in person! Although I’ve never played a Kirby game myself, the atmosphere was bright and adorable and the people in the group that had played the game adored it. I ordered a sleeping waddledee omurice and was specially instructed by the waiter to eat carefully so as not to wake him, advice I tried my best to adhere to. My strawberry chocolate drink was delicious and everyone’s food was so cute! Chloe was given a birthday coaster and ordered a chemistry drink where she got to be Heisenberg which looked pretty fun, but Liv’s one tasted like shampoo so I’m not sure which one of us was actually drinking chemicals. After this we went to some of Sky Tree’s stores including the Jump shop and the Pokémon Centre. Being the fourth one I’ve been in so far, there wasn’t anything in particular I was after so thankfully for my wallet, I took pictures with the Rayquaza inside and left. The next stop was Akihabara and although it was already late in the day we were able to get some shopping in. We met up with the rest of the lads and checked out super potato, some card shops, a figurine store which had some questionable content upstairs and a secondhand game store in which I found Luke 2 copies of Pokémon XD (he’s welcome) and Andre a £10 broken DS Lite (he’s also welcome). The book off we went to last time unfortunately didn’t have the £2.50 cartridges of Gameboy era Pokémon games, but the trek was made a little less sour by a trip to Ichiran for dinner. Idk what they put in the sauce that makes it so good but my god the ramen here is not overhyped. I was the last member of the group to be seated and as the slowest eater this was issue so I couldn’t really eat at my own pace, but it was still awesome. Had an early night today since Mt. Fuji awaits tomorrow and we’re getting up at 7:30 : )

Day 12: back in Tokyo! Today we got up at a stupid hour to get on a plane back from Okinawa. We dropped off the hire cars which I will miss dearly and found out that not only did Okinawa airport contain some adorable Pokémon themed buses and planes, but also had a shop that had some of the new TCG set that released today, and entire area themed to Pokémon featuring a bunch of Shaymin (my favourite mon) and a piano that made the hour wait go by like a breeze! Got a few claps from some passing tourists and air hostesses which did great things for my ego. The flight was bumpy because of turbulence but we lived and had the 40 minutes from Narita to Shinjuku to look forward to. We ended up over 2 hours late for our optimistically booked unlimited Sake evening, but once we got there we were joined by a new squad member in Andre who had already familiarised himself with the area. After some amazing Sake he lead us to a little bar in Kabuchiko called Kenzos which was cramped and covered in leopard print. The eponymous Kenzo was enthusiastic and lively, feeding us cocktails, snake laced spirits and a music video featuring himself called kabuchiko boogie. We also met some fellow tourists from the same regions as some of our group members, as well as one that Ed went to uni with which was just weird, but it makes sense this place would be so crazy. After a quick stop at another little bar with enough room for 9 and Luke thrashing some other patrons at arm wrestling, we went 7-11, smashed a bottle of soju and went back to the hotel for more drinks and some more jackbox. I got to sleep at 4:00am, woke up at 12:00pm the next day with a mild hangover, 10/10 can’t wait to do it again.

Japan day 8-11: The Okinawa Arc. I decided to upload all of these at once because the whole point of being here was to not stress or do much so now that it’s over I can start doing stuff again haha. Okinawa is a stunning island filled with some of the most amazing flora and fauna I’ve ever seen. The hotel we stayed in, although out of season, was one of the most interesting buildings I’ve ever stayed in and the rooms were all next to each other so we hung out too late every night playing jackbox. While we were here we visited a mall containing the islands very own arcanine themed Pokémon centre which featured a life size alolan eggsecutor(idk how to spell that ngl) and spent the next day kayaking in a mangrove river. Here we saw fish, herons, crabs, and most interestingly, mudskippers!! These land dwelling fish are so cute, I was thrilled to see them in the wild! They also have flying foxes here which are massive and way better than seagulls. We ate the best food of the trip so far at a questionably decorated place that had agu pork and seagrapes. I miss this gorgeous place and the warmth it carried already, but I can’t wait for my last week in Tokyo!

Day 7: Arishiyama and Fushimi Inari. Last day in Kyoto so a lot of the morning was spent packing meaning we didn’t manage to beat the crowds to the bamboo forest. Even nearly getting run over by rickshaws it was beautiful and the sunny weather made all the m a n y photos we took really pop! The second half of the day was spent climbing a mountain, but there were thousands of tori gates and statues of foxes along the way which did help. I didn’t expect to go all the way to the top of fushimi inari but I’m so happy we did!! We managed to time it perfectly with the sun set and it was truly breathtaking. I absolutely adore Kyoto and I’m really gonna miss it here, this city may well have earned its place as my favourite city in the world.

Day 5: Super Mario World at Universal Studios Japan!! Today we got up obscenely early to track to Osaka which is the home to USJ!! I’ve been here before although last time I was a walking corpse in 40 degree heat, and this time I’m just cold and tired so overall it was a better experience. We also weren’t lucky enough to have Mario tickets last time so this part of the park was entirely new and it was beyond worth the wait! The theming here is right out of the games. We had timed entry for the Yoshi ride which offers great views of the park as well as the newly opened Donkey King mine cart ride which was the best ride I’ve been on in a long time, which is impressive considering I gave that badge to journey to the centre of the earth like 3 days ago. Afterwards I grabbed a glizzy, did AR Mario Karts, drank butter beer and nearly threw it up after the hogwarts ride then queues up for the Jurassic park flying dinosaur which is pure evil and the most helpless experience you’ll ever have, it’s amazing. My melody churro finished the day off beautifully and then it was back to Kyoto for koko curry and an early night xx

it’s not about the bridges we crossed, it’s about the friends we made along the way ✨

Day 4: Kyoto! Last time I was here I was deathly ill and this was the portion of the holiday I was most excited for and I wasn’t disappointed!! Grabbed breakfast and a coffee in the most aesthetic Starbucks I’ve ever been in seeing as it had a temple in it because of course it did. Went in a shop that contained both skincare and crafts which is the most dangerous combo for me on the planet. Spent too much then stumbled in to Nishiki market on the way to pick up Ed. Tried the egg sando chicken cutlet true combo and discovered god, then went to the nearby temple. Whole thing was stunning, took a shit load of pictures then on the way down we saw fish, cormorants a raven and some cats! I miss Ganny ;-; walked back to Nishiki to find the Tokyo lads where we met them for some mediocre ramen where I got a kids meal because im based 😎 ended the day with a bath bomb named after my favourite person and a little bit of drawing. Nintendo tomorrow ;3
