Have you ever actually thought about how toilet paper gets so white?

We all know toilet paper starts with plant fibres.... whether that's wood pulp, bamboo or recycled paper.

But those fibres don't naturally start out bright white.

So… how do we get from that to the perfectly white toilet roll sitting in our bathrooms?

It comes down to the way the fibres are processed and whitened.

Traditionally, chlorine and chlorine-based chemicals have been used in paper bleaching to strip away the natural colour of the fibres and create that bright white finish. Considering this is something we use every single day, multiple times a day, on some of the most intimate areas of our bodies, I think it’s worth knowing there are options that skip the whitening process altogether and others that use alternatives to chlorine-based whitening.

And thankfully, there are now brands that either skip the whitening process altogether or use alternatives to chlorine-based whitening.

Here are some that I recommend

@naked_paper Unbleached Bamboo: Completely unbleached bamboo with no chlorine, peroxide or whitening process

Yep. Instead of throwing away the gorgeous William Morris prints from the Bumboo collection, I turned them into book covers — and honestly, I think they look better than half the decorative books you can buy.

A tiny bit of creativity + something that would have gone in the recycling = the prettiest little country-style styling detail. 🤎

We’ve probably all heard this famous quote and nowhere can it be applied more aptly than to this gorgeous new collection from @bumboo_uk
After all, there can be few things that will found in every single household in the country and no-one ever said that something that is both necessary and practical can’t also look attractive!
I was therefore delighted to receive this carefully curated box of beautiful, individually wrapped products which will take pride of place in my bathroom and kitchen. This much-loved pattern, originally designed in 1883 features birds nestled amongst strawberries, flowers and foliage.
