🔬 Scleroderma skin thickness has been assessed by hand for over 50 years. BU researchers are testing a new way to do it with light.

Researchers at @bostonuniversityengineering and @bumedicinee are using a light-based imaging technique called SFDI to measure skin changes in scleroderma patients without touching the skin. In a study of 49 people with scleroderma and 25 healthy volunteers, the light readings tracked skin thickness and scarring. They also differed in skin that doctors had scored as normal, suggesting the technique may detect subtle changes that can't be felt by hand.

25 years later, back where it all began. Reunited with my college and med school roommate, with my husband and Misha by my side. If you had told that younger version of me where life would take us, I never could have imagined it. So much to be grateful for, and still so much life ahead. ❤#bostonuniversityschoolofmedicine #bostonuniversityalumni #medicalschool
