What an amazing weekend of the best films, sold out blocks, new friends, creativity, artists, and just all around the best energy! Thank you to everyone that came out and supported independent films and filmmaking.

Thank you to @eastsidebowl and staff, @vega_shawarma and staff, our volunteers and team, patrons, @bunny_archmage and anyone that helped to create such moving, exciting, shocking, and defiant films.

Defy wouldn’t exist without each of you and we are so grateful to be part of this community. Making art is important, so keep doing it.

We’re already counting down the days til next year!

The 11th annual @defyfilmfest was another one for the books! Our first year at @eastsidebowl gifted the opportunity to catch up with Nashville’s film community and some of my favorite people in the world, meet new filmmakers and artists, and of course, broaden my mind to so many incredible boundary-pushing, art-conscious shorts, features and works of art trying something new in the world of cinema. I’m forever grateful to be a part of the team that puts this together, and look forward to what next year brings!

Although the death rattle of the emptiness possessing all who move in fear & hate & greed is loud, all around is evidence of plenty. If all we can direct is our own hearts I pray we keep learning to accept and love ourselves, our friends, our neighbors, and all of life as best we can. It is a lot to hold all the pain simultaneously co-existing on top of our own, but together maybe we can make the load a little lighter and dream a future where every table overflows with the abundance of the Earth who shares endlessly. I am so grateful for all the beautiful beings that grace my life every day. From the cardinals eating the Milky Oat Tops out our window where the jumping spider has made their home, to the bees sipping on the happy Echinacea, to my wild cat babies who love to hang outside, snack on the Oatstraw, and sit next to me while I read at sunset, to the friends willing to adventure, share space with me, and dream big, and to the plants and our garden who provide nourishment mentally, physically, and spiritually while reminding us how abundant even a small garden can be. I am so lucky to know you all and be in your presence. Keep fighting, keep loving, keep going ❤️‍🔥
