Singer and songwriter Burke Ingraffia, New Orleans native and current DC area resident, has found inspiration from varying artists and art movements in his career. ⁣ ⁣ Ingraffia straddles the secular and Christian world through his art, using his musical talents alongside his personal faith and expertise in theology and the humanities.⁣ ⁣ 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘉𝘶𝘳𝘬𝘦?⁣ "My original interest in songwriting was a love of the folk rock music of the 70's, like that of James Taylor, Paul Simon and Cat Stevens.  Later in life I started embracing the music of my roots in New Orleans and started combining jazz song structures with folk lyrics. Some songwriters I most enjoy these days are Bob Dorough, Mose Allison and Hoagy Carmichael. ⁣ ⁣ 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨?⁣ My personal lyric writing is very much informed by my Catholic faith and the Western tradition; however. I do not write praise and worship music. The songs I write and play are for a wider secular audience with a message of hope and imbued with imagery I've picked up from Catholic writers and the lives of the Saints."⁣ ⁣ ⁣ 𝘈𝘯𝘺 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘴?⁣ As an artist that lives in the intersection of the arts and faith, Ingraffia recommends the following to help your own artistic journey:⁣ • Art and Scholasticism by Jacques Maritain ⁣ • The Song That I Am: On the Mystery of Music by Elisabeth-Paule Labat⁣ • Mystery and Manners: Occasional Prose by Flannery O'Connor⁣ • Everything by writers G.K. Chesterton, Walker Percy and Evelyn Waugh⁣ ⁣ Over the course of his career, Ingraffia has recorded 5 full-length albums and an EP. Listen to his music on Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp and YouTube and stay up to date with his musical developments and performances on his website (burkeingraffia.com) and social media accounts.⁣ ⁣ Images and music courtesy of Burke Ingraffia (@burkeingraffia ) #calledtocreate #dccatholic
