I was excited today getting out for a run after a week of the deep freeze. 2024 race season training has begun and I’m feeling strong and healthy. Back at the gym for strength training and my diet and supplements are on point. Nigglies are gone so if I can stay disciplined with my stretching and maybe a yoga class or two things should go to plan. First race in two months. The Dirty Duo in North Van. One of my favourites as I think this is my 7th time running that race and thoroughly enjoy it. #altrarunning

Swipe through to see my perfected layers for cold weather running! 🇨🇦 🥶 right to the end for some 😂🤣
1. These are my weather proof pants I picked up from the @runningroom They’re perfect for a lot of extremes down to about -25c! With wind proof panels on the front and reflective pieces on the back.
2. Merino wool jumper @snowfinelskiwear I’ll throw on to run when the temps are no colder than -15c and no wind.
3. Base layer tights and long sleeves from lululemon that I wear under everything.
4. Pretty classic Foxxi running look. This is the lululemon lined dance studio pant over the mapped tight as shown in the slide before. The down for a run jacket. I’m wearing a gortex gator from the running room. It’s the best thing ever. I don’t feel like I’m suffocating with this mask. I do add a reflective vest as the jacket has zero reflective.
5. Another option with a few layers of merino wool long sleeves is this gortex North Face jacket. It stops all wind and is very warm. I love this big hood too for stopping the winds out here in the prairie. Add goggles to keep my eyeballs from freezing. I also am a fan of gorilla tape over the toe box of my trail shoes to keep my heat in and the cold out. The mitts I’m wearing are Columbia and this is my 3rd set! I love them! So warm.
6. For the extreme cold I go to my puffer jacket and snowboard pants! Bulky but so warm! I wouldn’t run 20 miles but great to get out for a quick run!
7. I always throw some hot paws in my mitts, a set on top of my toes. Shown also is a set of gortex tip toes as well as the face mask. My rechargeable headlamp as I run early in the morning. It’s important to be seen! Wear some reflective!

I’ve been running outside in the winter now for 20 years and have def had my share of trial and error which truly is ongoing! Wish me luck this weekend as we plunge into the -45-50 Celsius or near -67F!

Stop worrying about whether you’re going to fly or fail before you even try. Just take the first step out the door then do it again tomorrow. And don’t forget to smile and laugh and dance the whole time you’re doing it! My lord we’re lucky to be alive to get to do this thing everyday!

Let’s fkn go! Today I got up extra early, ran intervals in the dark on the snow under to moon, it was HARD! Came in and strength trained, did my mobility THEN went to work! I’m proud of me and THAT! 🌟 Reflecting on 2023: A Year of Growth, Adventure, and New Beginnings 🌟

As I saw everyone sharing their yearly roundups, I felt inspired to dive into my own 2023 story. And wow, what a year it’s been! It’s not about the millions 🏦 with Good Day Optics, but the rich tapestry of memories and milestones that truly define the journey. 🚀

Starting monthly (and maybe weekly someday), I’m committing to reflecting more often. Remember, it’s about sustainable habits, not overnight changes. So, let’s start small and keep rolling!

Here are just 10 of my standout moments from a year brimming with over 30 unforgettable experiences:

1️⃣ Launched Good Day Optics ski goggles and sunglasses - my vision coming to life! 🎿🕶️
2️⃣ Got my first tattoo with my sister in memory of our mom, igniting a new love for ink. 💉❤️
3️⃣ Hawaii trip with family, soaking in one of my mom’s favorite places and getting tattoo #2. 🌴
4️⃣ Continued house renovations, fueled by incredible family support. 🔨
5️⃣ Hosted Good Day Optics events with amazing turnout - the community spirit is real! 🎉
6️⃣ Explored new hobbies and made fantastic friends, like during paint night. 🎨

Top question for me in the winter. Why? My mama never raised no weakling. That’s why. Oh and I like it when ppl tell me I’m crazy. That’s a runner thing tho I think.

And just wait. The cold snap is in the long range forecast so if you like to see me suffer real winter is in sight for January!
