Meet Baylee Wheelock (Wheelock & CAS ‘27) who is participating in the Summer Sydney Internship program! 🇦🇺🦘

~~~~~~~~~
Hi! My name is Baylee Wheelock and I am a rising Senior. I am an Education and Human Development and French Studies major.
This summer, I spent two months exploring and working in Australia. My adventures ranged from anywhere along local beaches, the Great Barrier Reef, or another state! I also attended two classes while here: an internship course and an Art and Architecture class. Each Monday during my art class, we attended a new gallery to study Australian artists and their influence on the world, or the influences they gained from other parts of the world and brought back. Additionally, I had two internships while here! For the first month and a half I worked at the Naremburn school, it is a Special Education School for students with behavioral difficulties, mental health concerns, and Autism. While there, I interacted with many different classrooms, taught some lessons on Boston, and aided in classroom activities, such as cooking, daily lessons, or knitting! The students were teaching me just as much, as they taught me so much on Australian culture, recommendations for where to go, and simply the Australian education systems. As sad as I was to leave, I was very excited to attend my next internship. I began working at Spot Therapy Hub, a clinic for Occupational and Speech Therapy. There, I aided in small group sessions with children. We worked on communicating and social skills through play based learning.
When I wasn’t interning or in class, I was able to explore Australia! Some places where I spent a bunch of my time were Bondi, Circular Quay (central city of Sydney - the Opera House), and Manly. I also was able to explore outside of Sydney, including weekend trips to Cairns (The Great Barrier Reef!), Melbourne, Canberra (as a class field trip!), Newcastle, and the Blue Mountains. I even attended a NRL (National Rugby League) game. My time here has been nothing short of amazing and eye opening. Very happy and honored to have these experiences to take with me on my next journey!
