last year, i wasn’t able to attend the casting call, & now, a year later, i’m a part of it. ✨

so much of my creative journey has consisted of “not right now’s.” & while they can sometimes be discouraging, i always remember the wise words of one of my grandmaws: “what’s for you won’t miss you.”

so stay focused, stay dedicated & keep showing up during your “not right now’s” .. 🫶🏽

‘things change, jo’ is yours now /
‘lovelust’ the album out October 2nd

I wrote this song 7 years ago, before covid and the quarantine, I was much younger and full of wonder about the world. I remember sitting in my bed down in Arkansas working out the chords to this song on my keyboard, and all the time spent in the practice rooms getting the riffs right and coming up with the lyrics

I was down in Arkansas, in the ozarks - which if you’ve ever seen that show, it is kind of like that out there.. nothing around but bugs and trees. Between the trails and the breeze is where this song came to fruition. The main hook ‘things change, jo’ is a nod to mark adamo’s little women opera. It was one of the shows that was performed by the company that summer. Even though I didn’t have a role in the production, we would watch the show all the time, and hear our friends joke about it all the time. In the opera, it refers to Jo, one of the daughters, who has a hard time coming to terms with the constant and uncontrollable change in her life. Throughout the show, different characters will repeat this motif back to Jo, and as the summer went along, the phrase sort of became a meme between everybody. So it was on my mind a lot, and I interpolated it to fit the way I was feeling.
