Thanks for all the love I’ve received from the Gorillaz film. Means a lot ❤️

I wanted to share some BTS from the @buzzchickson mini series we’re working on at @thelineanimation. Here’s one of my favourite shots from the opening. It’s a super long panning shot done by @pedro_antoine.

I love the art direction we landed on for this intro. One of the rules was anything in the distance used a low poly 3D maps topology, like what you might find on Google Maps. Then we colourise it, draw and paint on top of it. It's kinda a quick fun way to get through a background of a big cityscape. Plus I love the Lo-fi vibes of it.

I also wanted to put in the location pins you might find on digital maps. It was fun writing the names, but there were a lot, so we asked everyone in the studio to contribute. There are some really funny ones in there if you scroll through the carousel.

Also very open for more suggestions for locations we can use in the series.
Rule: gotta be a pun on a London location, place, shop, restaurant, etc you’d find in London.

I never posted much about my experience working on Gorillaz - Song Machine. So I'm gonna do a recap over the next few weeks posting my top 5 videos from the series, along with some behind-the-scenes stories, materials and Insights about making 7.5 of the videos during a global pandemic.

I'll also be running a competition to win an exclusive Gorillaz prize. Watch this space!

2020 was a wild year for many reasons. One of the more positive reasons was getting to work again with @gorillaz & my life long hero, @hewll

@maxtaylordesign, @hewll & I, directed 9 music videos for 'Song Machine', although one got band.

It was an incredible journey that kept us on our toes, especially as the project evolved due to the pandemic, the marketing ambitions and the album's popularity.

Producer, @evaviolamaria , and lead animator, @venlarvae , worked on all the videos, doing an incredible job. 100% couldn't have done it without them. truly a bonding experience. Shout out 2 the amazing @itsgabypower, who we worked closely with from the Gorillaz team.

One of the highlights was getting to visit the rather secret Gorillaz HQ/ studio, which is featured in this video.

Initially, we were only supposed to do limited animated loops which would be used in the BTS footage of the album's production.

That's why this first video, 'Momentary Bliss,' has a behind-the-scenes vibe. It was filmed a few months before the pandemic hit.

Slowthai's drawn-on-film part was never planned. But we all felt that Slowthai rap needed something. Jamie suggested a drawn on film style animation over that section. A great idea, but because we hadn't planned for it, so didn’t have budget. I said I could do it around my other tasks. I was a bit nervous turning it in, I wasn't sure if Jamie would like it. Thankfully he loved it!

Also Remi from Gorillaz was wearing a snoopy cap and we were asked to comp it out due to copyright. Instead we change snoopy into @BuzzChickson
