The night that keeps on giving! Returning to regular whammy, I got my first chance in a very long time to see @daffodilsarenotforkids . So stoked to catch them for a full set. Beautiful songs sung in a distinctive deep resonant register, with the instrumentation moving between restrained delicacy to ripping power. Sprawling sonic guitars counterpointed by cool keyboard melodies. And a couple of @saltwatercriminals members to boot. Great set. Then it was off to catch another blistering set from @elliotandvincent . I think I haven’t seen them since they supported the amazing @mothercain, and here in much closer quarters, and tucked up to the front on one side of they stage, they let us all have it. Plenty of cheeky fun vibes from Elliot, with the usual pretty deadpan from Vincent. But they totally hit everything in their singing/drums and guitar format so hard. And even brought out a drumless song, with Elliot coming out and singing right up next to Vincent. Such a cool moment. To close things out, I raced through to catch @buzzz.music_ , who late in the piece found themselves closing out the night. They were well underway by the time I got there, but unsurprisingly were absolutely ripping. Their set finished all too quickly for me, but thankfully an encore was called for, and granted! After a bit of reconstructive guitar tuning, they treated us to a great rendition of BFM hit ‘Freezer Burn’. What a brillant night. A fantastic showcase of small venues and great bands. I nearly went in to @neckofthewoodsnz after, but by this point i really had worn myself out….. Gig#108 for 2026 part 3

Hey hey! It’s time for @publicservice_akl and it’s time for my first experience of @greyh0und__ and my first experience of @buzzz.music_ in their new 3 piece configuration. And-It’s 100 gigs for me this year! @whammypublicbar is such a great place for this event, and through its always being free to encourage people to come out and get involved, it’s once again really well attended. @greyh0und__ ( Nat Hutton) delivers a really lovely set of acoustic folky tunes with beautiful singing, lyrics given explanatory background, and a fun and engaging persona. Her laid back attitude seemed to really grab the audience, and was a great precursor for the much more rowdy @buzzz.music_ . So as mentioned they’re now a 3 piece, but absolutely no less ripping good. Felix Harper and Claudio have a really great understanding and power through their array of stonking tunes unhindered by anything but the occasional tuning break. So good. They’re always so much fun and absolutely rip it. Great tunes, great sounds, great people . Great night. Thanks @publicservice_akl ! Gig#100 for 2026
