Two books that have remained a quiet memory of two architects, their dialogue, and their camaraderie: Aranya and Dialogues.

I remember being on the threshold of leaving for Thailand to continue my architectural education when Yashawant Sir (my uncle) gave me these two books. He wanted me to understand not only the architectural dialogue within them, but also the groundedness and humility of his then-friend, Doshi Saheb, as he fondly called him.

Dialogues became a companion to the journey I was undertaking at the time. It stayed with me, not simply as a book on architecture, but as a way of understanding practice through conversation, reflection, and lived experience.

Today, these two books remain perhaps the only tangible architectural memories I carry from that period, a quiet reminder of a friendship between two architects, and of the values that architecture can hold beyond buildings: dialogue, camaraderie, humility, and a sense of being grounded.

✨ Quote of the Day

"I am not an architect. I am just a person who loves life."

— B.V. Doshi

Perhaps that is what made Balkrishna Doshi one of the greatest architects of our time.

His architecture was never about creating iconic buildings for the sake of attention. It was about people, communities, climate, culture, and the everyday experiences that make life meaningful.

From affordable housing to educational campuses, Doshi's work reminds us that architecture is at its best when it serves humanity.

For architecture students, this quote carries an important lesson:

Design is not only about form and aesthetics. It is about understanding life itself.

The more deeply we understand people, the better spaces we create for them.

💭 What do you think is the most important quality an architect should possess: creativity, technical knowledge, empathy, or something else?

Architecture is more than structures — it is emotion, culture, history, and human experience woven into spaces.

As B.V. Doshi beautifully reminds us, every building carries a story waiting to be understood. Great design begins when we learn to observe, feel, and listen to the spaces around us.

At LPU Architecture, we inspire future architects to create meaningful spaces that connect people, purpose, and place.

Design, at its core, is about sensitivity—towards materials, context, and nature.

Inspired by the legendary B.V. Doshi, this thought reminds us that architecture goes beyond structures—it is about understanding, intuition, and creating with humility. Every line drawn and every space designed carries a responsibility to respect the environment and enhance human experience.

At LSAD–LPU, we believe in nurturing architects who design with purpose, empathy, and sustainability at heart.
