Bonita is widely regarded as an excellent bait for various large offshore predators in Florida, including snapper, grouper, sharks, and even Goliath Grouper. Down in the Keys and along the Gulf Coast, anglers routinely catch the plentiful fish, often treating it as a “trash fish” due to its super irony flavor. However, the perception of this fast-swimming, hard-fighting fish shifts dramatically in the Northeast. Here, the same species is called a False Albacore or “albie” for short. And it is an object of obsession for Surf fishermen and light-tackle enthusiasts. They are targeted not for their minimal food value, but for their long runs and incredible fight on light gear, making them a rare gamefish that you can catch from shore for really only one month out of the year. However the naming issue is exacerbated by the fact that Atlantic Bonito - a totally different fish - looks very similar to an Albie. So as a result many northern fishermen call Bonito a Bonita further contributing to the confusion! Al, Morgan, and Uncle Brookie came out from Martha’s Vineyard for a quick little sunrise hard tail fishing send, and we quickly found schools of albies and bonito moving super fast near the shore line. They were very picky and keyed in on tiny bait, but we were able to hook up with the @uvtfishing Casting Minnow in sand eel color. Everyone ended up landing an albie, and we even got in some bonus sea bass for the day! #fisherman #massachusetts #capecod #fishing

Catching GIANT Tuna underneath big commercial boats

We went searching for Giant Bluefin Tuna with @centerconsolesonly @hondamarine_usa and @bwboats For most of these guys it was their first tuna ever, so there was a lot on the line… Despite the snotty weather the Bluewater 2850 got us to the fishing grounds no problem, and with the Honda 350s combined with @dometic steering and autopilot, we made the long run in no time. With a massive tuna, along with a full live well and 7 people in the boat, the @armstrong.nautical flotation bracket kept us nice and buoyant! #fishing #fisherman #tuna
