Part 2.

I met with Arlene Chandler of Spectrum Family Talks at the Black Women’s Expo at McCormick Place this past summer. October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month and Arlene is using her experience to uplift the families who have members with DS. This is the first part of our interview.

Arlene is Mac’s mom and the creator of Down Right Confident, a coloring book about her son Mac, the first Black boy with Down syndrome to have his own coloring book! It’s packed with joy and moves, plus Chicago resources for families who are just getting started.

Mac learns through movement and dance. Arlene reminds us that every child learns differently, so keep exploring until you find their creative spark.

Three years ago, Arlene and her husband founded Spectrum Family Talks to normalize conversations for families with kids on the spectrum. Their parent chats bring families, doctors and specialists together in community.

A year ago, I had the honor of sitting on a panel at the Black Women’s Expo, sharing space, wisdom, stories, and vision with incredible women. Looking back, I realize the conversation was bigger than the moment. It was about becoming.

We spend so much time asking, “How do I get through the door?” But what if the greater question is: Who am I becoming on the other side of it? Curate the best version of yourself. Not the version designed to impress the room. The version that knows who she is, what she carries, and why she’s there.

Then strut through any room because God sent you. 👑 Become so aligned with your purpose that you no longer have to force the door.

You become the all-access key to your dreams. 🔑✨ Because perhaps the greatest architecture you will ever design…is yourself.

In honor of Keke’s birthday and the recent loss of a cultural icon like Dolly Parton, I found this video from her recent visit to Chicago at the Black Women’s Expo very fitting for the occasion.

Keke from WGCI asked “when you look back on your life, what do you want people to remember about Keke Palmer?”

Keke’s answer resonated deeply with me as it mirrored a lot of my own thoughts and goals. When I get a chance to reflect on my own life: what did I leave for the next generation? What impact did I have on my peers, friends, family?

I believe Dolly Parton also reflected a similar viewpoint, in leaving a tangible impact for the people who need it most. It’s conversations like this and perspectives that I truly hold tight to my heart and try to keep at the forefront of my mind as I journey through life— what do I want to be remembered for? What actions am I taking now to achieve this?

Anyway, Happy birthday Keke! Rest in peace Dolly!🫶🏾

Hello Hello! At the Black Women’s Expo, Jessica, the Experiential Marketing Manager for Black Girl Vitamins, tells us about the importance of health and supplements for Black women.

When I tell you that their line was wrapped all the way around McCormick Place, it was a sight to behold. If you want to learn more about Black Girl Vitamins, check them out below.

Also, if you have a leader who hosts and event and desire content to showcase your experience, send me a message so I can learn more about your vision and to bring it to fruition!

God really amazes me with the things he allows me to experience! @Keke™ has always been one of my favorite girl bosses! When people say I remind them of her I am HONORED! 😭 her ambition, larger than life personality and the way she utilizes EVERY gift God has given her is exactly how I strive to live my life! God let me see her in action up close and I know that was also a push for me to go harder! Proverbs 18:16 has been an answered prayer in my life this year, I’m so grateful to the Lord for the new rooms that are on the way!! 🥳♥️✨🙌🏾
