(scroll thru) wrote a new newsletter post about all the listening i've done this week and how it's making me rethink the origins of my love of audio-making. But based on early returns, the big hit of the post is my 2007 hair. ** subscribe at link in bio or at annasale.substack.com **

Radiotopia's Topefest 2023: A Huge Success!

Last week, we brought together our brilliant podcast creators in the heart of Manhattan for our annual network retreat - Topefest 2023! Can you spot some of your favorite creators in our event photos?

Over the course of two days, our creators converged alongside our team for insightful conversations and brainstorming around podcasting. And yes, we made sure to have some fun too!

We want to thank PRX partner Sonic Union (@sonicunionnyc), who graciously hosted us in their Bryant Park studio — as well as everyone who stuck with us through COVID-related cancellations and canceled flights, to make our first Topefest in over three years THE BEST TOPEFEST EVER.

Radiotopia thrives because of the talent and dedication of our creators who work tirelessly to produce compelling podcasts. Their passion continues to fuel our mission to create audio with a vision.

I had a jampacked trip to NYC, doing my favorite things. I met up with my fellow indie podcast makers in the @radiotopia network to talk about our work and process and challenges. I wrote music with two of my favorite artists, @kimbramusic and @fennelily. I recorded an episode of @bufferingcast with @jennyowenyoungs & @kristinnoeline. I celebrated 12 years of marriage to @lindsey_hirway, saw old friends, ate great cookies, and pet several nice dogs. Apart from the rain, the allergies, the sweat, and not being able to get a fried tofu sandwich at @superiorityburger, it was a perfect week.

Happy Cinco de Mayo, this day is very special for us, we started previews of Say Something Bunny! on this day in 2017. Full of nervous excited and surrounded by loving faces, our adventure in New York began. We hope we have the chance to continue it this summer. Until then, we’re appreciating this sunny day in NYC and thinking about its resilient residents.

Always the edges where the interesting stuff at. #bushwick: Go all the way to the end of #WyckoffAve, the east end & hang a right for @nowadaysnyc, which was 🔥 for #pride, w/ some intense post-apocalyptic #industrial #beats of #newworlddysorder, or maybe we were just🔥 who knows it’s all so haze #now. #NYC #AboutLastNight #nyc

NEW MEDIA — NEW FORMATS:
A ROUNDTABLE

PRINCETON SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE / ROOM N107

Nikolaus Hirsch

Sarah Herda

In a letter to his secretary Peter Gast in late February 1882 describing his newly acquired typewriter, a portable Malling-Hansen Writing Ball, Friedrich Nietzsche wrote: “Our writing tools are also at work on our thoughts.” This M+M roundtable will consider shifts in the conditions of writing today and their impact on the constitutive relation between media and ideas. Given new platforms that are encouraging short form writing, are generating an emphatically aural intellectual culture, and are accelerating speeds in both production and reception of discourse, we must ask, how are these tools also at work on our thoughts? //
Nikolaus Hirsch is editor of e-flux Architecture, an online archive and editorial project that maintains a dynamic international program of projects and events in collaboration with leading institutions and practitioners.
//
Benjamen Walker's Theory of Everything Podcast plunges listeners into a whirl of journalism, fiction, art, interviews, and the occasional exploding pipe dream—connecting dots in a hyper-connected world. //
Sarah Herda is director of the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, which fosters the development and exchange of diverse and challenging ideas about architecture and its role in the arts, culture, and society.
