This year SPACE donated over 500 POUNDS of unused and unsold produce to local food banks and our friends at Second Chance Foods. Food waste is a huge issue in our food system; imperfect, aesthetically unpleasing vegetables are often thrown away in vegetable production. SPACE is committed to being part of the solution.

Help us continue these efforts by making a tax-deductible donation at the link in the bio.

✨Thank you to all our new followers for your support!✨Today, I was asked to reflect on what my WHY was. Why do I do what I do. Why does my work matter?✨For most of my early life, I spent years hiding burn scars on my arm...I spent years feeling riddled with anxiety when I spoke to people...I suffered from panic attacks and struggled in silence for a long time. ✨I was afraid that someone would look at me long enough to see me✨When I was in college, the Universe brought a miracle to my life, a chance to do a photo shoot with a friend✨My friend Sharon asked me if I wanted to be a model for a portrait photo shoot. I was utterly confused. I asked, wait me? Why me?✨Sadly, I thought there nothing special about me...I felt so insecure. But I wondered, what if I do it? What if I push myself to do something I’ve been avoiding for so long. What if I let her see me? I trusted my friend Sharon and I said yes, I’ll model for you. I showed up to the shoot with a short sleeved shirt on. My heart was racing when Sharon noticed my scars. She asked if I was comfortable with sharing my story of how I got my scars. I felt something tug inside me...someone wanted to hear my story...✨I trusted her enough to let my guard down, to tell her how my scars made me feel. She told me they were beautiful, something I’ve never thought was true. She carved out space for me to work through my awkwardness and through my insecurities.✨What I felt during that shoot is what has molded my intentions for my work✨To carve out a space for someone to let themselves be seen...to tell their story...to be heard...to be cared for...to be celebrated✨Retratxs is unlike any magazine you’ve ever read or seen. Our cover stars will be every day people...every day people that bring us the immense honor of letting us see them...of letting us hear their stories. I cannot wait for you to read the first issue. Thank you for joining us on this journey. Colorín colorado este cuento ha comenzado.✨ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #xicanayork #retratxs #retratxsmag #magazine #photography #vscocam #vscocollective #agameoftones #xicanas #thebronx #portraiture #plussizefashion #fatfemme
