This RAW footage, shot on the RED DSMC2 MONSTRO 8K VV by Brad Day, gave me a great opportunity to explore a film-inspired color grade using Genesis, developed by Cullen Kelly.
Genesis is one of the most impressive negative film emulation tools I've worked with. Rather than simply adding a film-like appearance, it aims to accurately reproduce the behavior and characteristics of negative film, giving the colorist much more control over the final look.
For this grade, I used Genesis as the foundation to shape the color, contrast, and overall character of the footage while preserving the flexibility of the original RED RAW file.
A great camera and RAW acquisition give you a strong starting point, but the real challenge is understanding how to transform that information into a deliberate visual language.

Hiasom = “Happiness is a State of Mind”

What better example of this than Happy Dogs! I was pretty stoked to find this footage (of real dogs, no AI!) from Australian cinematographer Brad Day and couldn’t help but smile putting the edit together!

Watch it here in 4 parts, or in full over on our YouTube Channel. Link in bio👆

Enjoy, take some positive energy for yourself, and maybe share it with someone else who could use some Happy Vibes too!
