The hardest part of surviving coercive control and domestic abuse isn’t always what someone did to you. It’s coming to terms with what living through it did to you.

The loss of confidence, the constant self-doubt, the fear, the hypervigilance, and the parts of yourself you barely recognise anymore.

You don’t just grieve the person you thought they were. You grieve the person you were before you met them and healing is learning that although they changed you, they don’t get to define who you become. 🤍

A difficult one to caption, because this piece acts as an ode to my mother and our precious moments daily, a nod to the boy I used to be, to my softening father and a past he can’t really see, and the rebellious act of writing itself in order to become truly free. And I love them all very deeply.
