2 track mixingggggg!

the audio you’re hearing is the new @frownpowr we recorded here back in april, directly off of the playback head of the tape machine. love this tascam 22-2!

lately, we’ve been real hard at work on the studio itself. lots of new outboard gear and mics, a completely new control room layout, and a lot of gear has been restored and returned to its former glory. if you’ve already been here to record, it’s pretty different these days! if you haven’t been here yet, you should!

ALWAYS stocked with @oyecoffeeco and fresh reels of tape from @nashvillerecordingsupply.

Recording to cassette IS all it's cracked up to be - fussy, unpredictable, imperfect, and fun. Here is a video of me recording my submission for the @byrdfinds "Byrdtapes Vol. 1" contest last year. The rule was you can't use a computer. The song is about my woman and how she's my favorite cup of tea. I used my tascam 238 8track recorder, DX7, oberheim matrix1000, and the odd assortment of 80s/90s rack fx I've picked up over the years. I irresponsibly failed to share this until today even though it was last summer. Volume 2 is already in motion haha. Oh, and I shot it with a vhs camcorder.

Nick made an "album" page over at byrdfinds.com with everyone's submissions and they're awesome.

Show someone some affection 👍

took this lil tascam 22-2 for its maiden voyage today after sourcing and installing new reel tables, and honestly - i’m IMPRESSED. even though we recorded the new @frownpowr record to logic (and there’s nothing wrong with recording digital, let me be clear), i wanted to find some way to get one of our tape machines involved. so i am using this on mixdown, the way it was intended to be used. the punch this thing is giving is WILD!

yet another great get on @byrdfinds, and another great sounding reel of @rtm_tape from @nashvillerecordingsupply

clips from last year at The Library making a track with the heads @keepinupwithdajones & @mjbroyl for the annual @byrdfinds DAW-less competition. 🎥: @describethefauna

entry for this year is open just thru this weekend, sign up and compete w me.

it’s really less of a competition and more that Nick + Delaney are building a community of like minded music makers, encouraging us to make something for fun but with intention, and without a computer.

the prizes are insane, swag bag is tite (everyone gets one). plus they source cool producers, songwriters, musicians and the like to ‘judge’ the comp aka listen to your music.

this isn’t an ad, btw, I just like community building, especially around music + audio production, k have a good wknd byeee
