⚽️VARSITY⚽️ Today would have been a glorious day In this sun as the annual Varsity was due to take place against new opponents LSBU.
However, with the current global pandemic, unfortunately this has been postponed. 😩😩😩 It’s not all gloom and doom though as we take a HUGE throwback from last years Varsity against Medway 1sts with Greenwich ending up as 3-2 winners 😍⚽️. WHAT A DAY this was. Unreal scenes. 💥

⚽️MATCH REPORT⚽️ Greenwich played host to West London last Wednesday in a Semi final encounter which well and truly only went one way 👀. The first 10 minutes were tense with a real semi final feel to the game. However once Greenwich got into their groove, started pressing high and moving the ball around like they normally do- It was simply chance after chance! 🙏🏻. After some excellent doggy work @c1_mb was rewarded with a goal when he nutmegged the centre half from a tight angle and tucked the ball into the keepers near post! 1-0!! And C1’s 14th goal of the season! 👀😍 The next goals are always crucial after going 1-0 up and @macylath’s fantastic delivery from the corner dumbfounded the keeper as @rhystheobald, @s.ibz0 and @chazhannam swarmed the 6 yard box with the keeper fumbling the ball into the net! 2-0 as half time approached 🙌🏻. Everyone rallied at half time and the whole squad echoed the exact same response: ‘We NEED to score the next goal’. 😬

3-0 puts the game out of sight, 2-1... a WHOLE different story.

In truth West London didn’t really trouble the Greenwich defence as the midfield worked tirelessly to press and recover! The high press bared it’s fruits when Greenwich were awarded a free kick from 20 yards, which @macylath made no mistake with a low drive which missed the wall and went under the keeper! 3-0... GAME, SET and MATCH 🤩. Greenwich were having fun at this point, and the defence, who had an easy game, wanted some involvement. And that’s exactly what they got! Theo and Sharif with the link up as Mac delivers a ball, which Theo somehow manages to acrobatically (yes we said acrobatically) back heel into the air for Sharif to deliver a punishing header 😮 (👉🏻 Swipe to see). 4-0!! The final goal of the game came when C1’s shot was saved but parried into Sharif’s path who was first to alert and tucked away with ease for his second goal of the game. Greenwich came out comfortable winners! 5-0!! Cup final pending against Bucks University on the 11th March!! Could Gaffers Theo and Mac be clinching a LEAGUE AND CUP DOUBLE this season?!👀😍🏆🏆

⚽️CHAMPIONES CHAMPIONES OLE OLE OLE⚽️ We could sit here and write about how Greenwich tore apart a weak St Mary’s by scoring 8 and winning the title... but we’re not gunna do that... We’re simply going to bask in our glory as Greenwich 1sts have now officially won their league with a game to spare!! Played 9
Won: 8
Drawn: 1

The boys are back in business tomorrow over at the Avery Hill Astro as they face St Mary’s in a 15:30 kick off! ⚽️ The games and permutations are coming thick and fast for Greenwich 1sts as we enter crunch time in the season! Fresh from their Quarter Final win against Brunel, The 1sts now have their first chance at Silverware this season as just a DRAW is enough on the day tomorrow to WIN the league title with a game spare! 🤯🏆 It really has been a special year this year with the Firsts going UNDEFEATED across all competitions and will fancy their chances against Bottom of the table St Mary’s who have only managed 2 points throughout the whole year!
However with 1 of those points coming against Greenwich in the reverse fixture, could there be an upset on the cards? Canterbury will definitely be hoping so. A humble, professional performance is needed from the boys tomorrow 🙏🏻🙌🏻. In good news, @benstokes98 has stepped up his return to fitness after participating in training and will be chomping at the bit to get some minutes in! @chazhannam showed promise in his first game back by scoring the winner against Brunel! The 2 returnees couldn’t come at a better time for managers @rhystheobald and @macylath as they look to remain undefeated in the league AND claim a cup win 🏆⚽️. Catch us LIVE tomorrow at Avery Hill Astro for a 15:30 kick off and witness something special 🏆

⚽️MATCH REPORT⚽️ First of all, we would like to apologise for the lack of pictures this week, and the lateness on this Match report.
Our guess is the admin guy hasn’t quite got used to the Christmas break being over yet and refuses to accept that we’re FINALLY back on the pitch 😍

Greenwich 1sts travelled to Imperial on Wednesday with their first league game back since demolishing Brunel 5-0 before Christmas 👀. There was only thing on the minds of the players: Get the W, remain unbeaten, and Smoke this league 🔥
Greenwich were awarded a penalty not long in after @36renz was taken down a in the box. It was a rather windy occasion as Theo stepped up only to smash against the bar 😭. Still 0-0.
The first goal of the game came after some neat build up play down the right which saw @alfie.shaw.9 cross across goal for @c1_mb to slot into an empty net. 1-0!! Greenwich immediately went on the hunt for for more although were guilty of letting their standards drops given the opposition. Some scrappy play in the middle ended up with @blue_3yed.truths being slot on his stronger left foot side who thumped the ball into the back of the net with an accurate and powerful strike! 2-0 and Ibraheem’s first of the season 🙌🏻. The 3rd goal was that of absolute brilliance! The selfless hard working Adam Pavey tracked back, collects the ball a thumping challenge, lofts the ball 35 yards across the pitch with Alfie deliciously touching the ball in the air down into his stride and finessing into the top corner! Game over and what a killer blow that was 😍👏🏻. The second half was tedious with both teams waiting for the inevitable final whistle. The ball again went down the right hand side after some build up from the back! That boy Alfie again fizzes a ball to the backpost with @aer1312 poking in at the back stick make it 4-0🤯😍. The final goal of the game came with Theo sending a ball over the defence for C1 to run onto with his weak strike still somehow finding it was way through the keepers fingertips 😅. Imperial got a goal back late on to make it 5-1 but to no significance 😌. Full time 5-1! 6 points clear with 3 games to go 👀

⚽️Appreciation post⚽️ Last Wednesday Paul and Dan played their last game for Greenwich 1sts 😢. In order to commemorate and say thanks for their efforts this year, we couldn’t let them leave without a signed shirt from all the boys at Greenwich ❤️. Wednesday night saw the club come together for a Christmas meal with our Sponsors @nandosuk to celebrate our successes as a whole so far this season, and of course to send our wishes to the 2 lads as we bid them farewell.

Paul, a dazzling left back from France made his impression from the very start and stamped his authority on the left back position. His top class defending, and ability to take on his man and beat them with such high acceleration was crucial to the way Greenwich 1sts play and contributed statistically with 3 goals and 5 assists ‼️ A personal highlight from everyone was Canterbury 2 weeks ago where he picked the ball up from the halfway line, beat 4 men, and slotted in the corner 🤩

Dani-boy, from Germany, one of the most consistent players we have ever seen, always kept things ticking in the middle of the park and his absolute selflessness in providing cover when needed is something that never went unnoticed. His composure on the ball and such accurate and efficient ball retention and passing was again instrumental in Greenwich’s style of play this year.

We would like to thank Paul and Dan for their levels of commitment, energy, and all round influence they have had on the team.

They have both no doubt played their part in what Greenwich hopes to be a league and cup double for the 1sts, and they will forever engrain their history amongst this squad, and amongst Greenwich folklore! All the best for the rest of your studies lads and we hope to see you again soon! Please know you are welcome back at any time (cough cough Dani boy for the cup run 😉) and it has been an absolute pleasure to have you in our team, and apart of our club as a whole ❤️ #GreenwichRangers #internationalballers #nandos #endofanera #pingingpassesslappingasses #legends #werenotcryingyourecrying
