Greenies💚 v. Rabun Gap

It’s a different Thanksgiving this year. I wanted to share a little of my heart.

Our son Colby is away at prep school in North Carolina. We had planned to all spend 🇨🇦Thanksgiving together, but schedules changed. So, on a whim, I decided I was going anyway.

A 24-hour whirlwind trip. ✈️ A chance to watch him play football, have lunch, hug him and just be mom. There’s something about sitting in those bleachers, watching your child do what they love.

today, I even got to squeeze in a visit with my grandma, Nons.

Thanksgiving looks different in other ways this year, too.

Family relationships aren’t always easy. different, you have to make decisions that protect your peace.

Even as a professional coach, some of my greatest lessons have come from coaching myself through my own life. (There’s probably a book in there somewhere. 😂)

I’ve learned that being the person willing to speak up about unhealthy patterns doesn’t necessarily make you the problem. Sometimes you’re simply one willing to acknowledge what others have learned to avoid.

I’m also learning that gratitude and grief can exist together. You can be deeply thankful for your life and still feel the sadness of what you wish had been different.

One of my greatest lessons this year has been recognizing how easily we can allow someone else’s behaviour to influence our decisions and joy. And I’m no longer willing to give that away.

This year, I’m deeply grateful for our siblings, the family we have, and the beautiful family we’ve chosen along the way. The friendships, community and people who have become such meaningful parts of our lives. The freedom to create traditions rooted in what matters most.

So wherever you find yourself this Thanksgiving, whether you’re surrounded by family, creating new traditions, or navigating some complicated feelings of your own, I hope you know that you’re allowed to choose what is healthy for you.

There is so much to be grateful for. Sometimes we just need to give ourselves the space to recognize it.

Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours!!
Deep reflections and gratitude over here.
