Toy Story 5 was AMAZING! IMO, MUCH better than Toy Story 4! I highly recommend!

Toasting to our Japan trip and also my birthday, along with our before Japan and last photo in Japan pics

Now for my wholesome reflection post about my Japan experience: I have been interested in Japanese culture ever since anime was introduced to me in 6th grade. Once I went to college at Northern Illinois University, I finally had the opportunity to learn the language and more about the culture, so I decided to Minor in Japanese. Then it got to the point I had the opportunity to study abroad my Junior year, when I was 20 years old. However, that was also the time that my disease began to take a turn for the worse and started on medication that I would have to take once every 8 weeks for the foreseeable future if I wanted to live. Because of that and my health getting so severely bad, I had to put my dream of studying abroad to a halt.

For years, I had severe resentment over my fortune of bad health and pretty much gave up on the idea of going abroad and being able to enjoy my life doing anything a typical person in their 20’s would ever be able to experience.

However, thanks to a great support system and my strong ability to stay positive and optimistic even when I was literally dying, I kept on repeating in my head “one day I will go to Japan no matter how long it takes for me to get better!”

So 15 years later, after getting to go to Japan, the emotions I felt were simply that of utmost gratitude. Even though I am in a much better place now, I am still nowhere near and will never be back to normal, good health. But that is okay. I may not live the life of the average person my age, but hey, there is truthfully no competition to be the quickest one to get your life together and nobody lives an absolutely perfect life (as much as I inevitably end up comparing my life to others around me, but luckily I am able to knock myself out of that downward spiral when it gets bad).

We never know what the future holds, but those 2 weeks I went will be a lifelong memory I will always cherish for the rest of my life.

Some of my favorite ‘best of group photos’ from my first ever trip to Japan. Went from May 27th-June 10th, 2024. Visited all sorts of places, including Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Tokyo, and more! (More photos incoming)

In total I took over 2000+ photos and videos 😅 and I have them all on my Facebook page and my Google Photos. If you are interested in seeing the rest, let me know!
