San José del Pacífico → Oaxaca, México 🇲🇽: Day Four — Woke up around 6am, laid in bed for a bit before getting up. Walked out of the cabin and got greeted by two dogs hanging around @cabanasrv — one of them, a really sweet, spirited female, came right up to me tail wagging, full dog smile. She got a little mouthy with me at first, not aggressive, more like she wanted to play and didn’t quite know how to ask. I kept my energy calm and neutral so she wouldn’t read anything as a reaction, and she settled into just walking alongside me. Both dogs ended up tagging along on my whole walk and until I headed back toward Casa Honorio, and somewhere along the way they got protective — a guy walking the other direction with music playing got barked at the second he got close, something they never did with me. He assumed they were mine. Told him no, just made some friends this morning, they’re harmless, just loud. Had breakfast at @casahonoriorv — chilaquiles split between mole negro and chilaquiles verdes, plus a mocha with oat milk and chocolate. Cut it closer than planned — had a 10am colectivo booked back to Oaxaca and still needed to pack. Took a tuk tuk up to the @lineasunidasserpevass1 stop, got there about an hour early, hung out and took photos while I waited. Van showed up and we were on our way back down. Didn’t get the front seat this time, but the row right behind it turned out to have a great view anyway, and this driver was much better than the one on the way up. We stopped in a few small towns along the route, including the halfway point — Centro de Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz. Looked like a genuinely cool little town, the kind of place I’d want to spend a night if I were ever driving through instead of just passing by. Made it back into Oaxaca and grabbed a cab to my hostel — first real hostel stay of my life. New territory. Curious how it goes. 🚐🌄

Oaxaca → San José del Pacífico, México 🇲🇽: Day Two — Woke up around 6am and got everything packed and ready to head into the mountains. Since I still had some time before I needed to leave, I went back out to walk around and take photos while everyone was heading to work. Centro looks completely different in the early morning than it does at night — worth seeing both. Stopped by @chocolatemayordomo for pan de mantequilla and chocolate de leche before heading back to grab my bags. Walked to Oxxo for water, then made my way to @lineasunidasserpevass1 for the ride up to San José del Pacífico. The 3.5 hour van ride through the mountains was an experience — got to see a totally different side of Mexico along the way. Arrived in SJdP around 1pm and hopped straight into a tuk tuk to get to Rancho Viejo. Couldn’t check in yet, so I dropped my bags and went back into town to explore. Ended up hiking further up the mountain than I meant to looking for a spot I never found, but ran into some other travelers coming down who pointed me back the right way. Wandered through town, checked out the little shops. Came back to @cabanasrv for dinner at @casahonoriorv — had a ribeye tostada and a couple of beers. Turns out this place is really nice — the little general store here even had the same shampoo brand I lost at security back at the airport. Ready for whatever tomorrow brings up here in the mountains. 🌲🍄☮️
