Year three in the books. This one felt different. Maybe it’s because of the people, maybe it’s because of the struggles we pushed through together, maybe it’s because we secured high percussion, or maybe it’s because this is the first time I don’t know where the future will take me. The truth is, it’s all of those things. I would give anything to re-live each and every moment I spent with this family. Never in my experience have I been part of a group that worked this hard, dealt with this much, and cared this deeply about each and every one of us. We were tested time and time again. Members were injured, sick, the weather sabotaged our rehearsals, lot, show. In times where it’s easiest to crumble, we rebuilt stronger than before. We are forged under pressure. These moments have proved to be most important and most memorable. I will never forget summoning torrential rain in military park before prelims. I am so incredibly proud of every caballero that marched this show. I would like to thank the staff for igniting the fire that powered us all through this season. I’m grateful to be able to learn so much about life through an activity that I hold so close to my heart.

Finally, a special shout out to @mfoxphotography3 for the photos this year, and a huge congratulations on your engagement!

Sometimes in life things fall into place perfectly. 80 years of history and hard work all led up to this summer being what it was: perfect.

A season is never about a number, but rather your growth and reaching potential. Success is when preparation and luck come to a head, and that’s exactly what happened at finals. We worked our asses off, and at finals, when it mattered most, we delivered — and there’s some luck to that.

To the battery: You’re all killers. Coming back to Hawthorne for a 2nd season is the best thing I could have ever done, and it’s because of you all. Your dedication and drive to this show was inspiring and an honor to be a part of. I love you all and look forward to seeing you soon.

To my staff, Mark, Hannah, Ryan, and Tristan: You are the reason I wanted to be a Caballero again. While at points in the season I absolutely hated many of you, I can without a doubt say you’ve had profound impacts on me as a musician and a person. Thank you.

As I reflect on this season, I count it among the hardest things I have ever endured. But the longer I sat with it, the clearer the truth became. The mountain was never the season itself. The mountain was myself, and that was the summit I had to conquer.

I love being a Caballero.

Final All-Age caption leaderboard, season bests through August 8

Reading Buccaneers won the All-Age World Championship and closed the board holding eight cells.

Hawthorne Caballeros keep Color Guard and Percussion. Reading’s Color Guard climbed sharply from Prelims, their one soft spot all week.
