POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Recently board members from SDAF assisted a rancher in Meade County with the removal of some pretty old 5 strand wire. This fence was erected in the late 1930’s. That’s almost 10 generations of Pronghorn that have had to navigate around or under that fence. Some of the wood posts were at one time telegraph poles. The land owner we assisted has replaced numerous miles of this old fence and replaced it with wildlife friendly fencing. We need more stewards like this who understand the value of native wildlife on their property. The kicker to all of this is that it now allows wildlife to access pastures that are enrolled in a walk in program. The @sdgamefishparks is working with landowners to install more of this wildlife friendly fencing. The fencing works for both wildlife and landowners who share the landscape with them. These small changes on the prairie allow young ungulates to thrive in their native habitat unrestricted. Huge shoutout to members of the @south_dakota_bowhunters_inc board for showing up and running some fencing pliers. Last but not least…it wouldn’t be a project without some nope ropes. Our SDAF Board Chair is still cleaning his undies 😎.

A few of the traditions we love: Breakfast with the Presidents followed by shenanigans at the monument, Christmas Chaos games where rules are seldom understood and competition is inexplicably fierce, and goodbyes on the deck (we don’t really love saying goodbye, but we always have to do it).
