To quote our friend Janet Steward: not all farm days are good days, but all farm days are long days!
As happy as we have been with our new baby calf, we have been challenged to learn new things, like milking a cow and inserting feeding tubes into a calf, among many other things.
Momma and baby didn’t nurse right away. Maisey’s first feeding was actually through a feeding tube. Matilda didn’t know what to do and neither did baby. Quite honestly, neither did we!!
We had to milk mom and bottle feed baby the first days.
We are blessed to have the invaluable help from several neighbor farms, including @cabriolefarm and our trusted Janet from @greenfieldhighlandbeef
It’s been an absolute incredible experience.
We are grateful for the constant support, advice and encouragement.

🎉 Here’s to hoping Matilda and Maisey continue to bond and nurse without much human interaction.
