Standing on an empty street corner with @oldthingsnewplaces earlier tonight at the end of a stellar New York day full of vibrancy and one reminder after another of things that were formative to me, I was struck by a thought that’s occurred to me often since Covid came and switched up our social clocks in a way I don’t think we’ve ever changed back from. Maybe you know what I mean right off, but it’s that lack of winding late nights where we, as friends or lovers, just never wanted the evening/hang/convo to end. So we’d just walk and walk and feel the midnight winds, and the way the air changes when the sun has been absent for a certain number of hours. And yeah yeah, time makes you bolder, even children get older, and I’m getting older too, I know, but when we sit, my friends and I, and we talk about aging and changing and shifting priorities, the thing I’ve come to realize that I actually miss the most in this entire process of “growing up” is those endless nights of walking and talking, of flirting and romancing. The stroll of it all.

Mid-pandemic I was very conscious not only of my “first late night out” in a field near Calgary with the wonder @raynapat, because omg we were out and free, but mostly just how much I’d missed that. Or I think about the epic 40th birthday my sweethearts put together for me, and the fondest memory remaining the final few sitting at a park table after its end.

I’m meandering, I know. But that’s entirely the point, I suppose. And tonight felt a bit like one of those nights even if I’m in bed by 1:15 AM. I guess it’s that feeling of unlimited potential that a good night can bring that may very well be a primary driving force in my life altogether. Here’s to a summer full of them.

‘BEHOLDER’, arriving August third, is my second full-length album since I began releasing music under the name Kamuter in 2018. My friend @cacomixl has heard it a few times as I’ve been working on it, and he helped me write up the following blurb. I’m am so grateful to him for helping me put this project into words.

“Kamuter was born in transit, and ‘Beholder’ is transporting.

A big, fuzzy, inviting machine that carries you away across a cinematic landscape of dreamlike ambience and bell-like pulses — sometimes twinkling, sometimes rhythmic and bouncy, and occasionally stretched out as if walking towards a horizon we cannot reach.

Kamuter has an empathic ear for his environment, a sonic treasure hunter sharing his worldly discoveries. Human voices murmur from beyond your headphones, or come to the fore speaking snippets and phrases that aren’t what they seem. But semantic satiation can be just as satisfying as a meaningful mantra: I know it’s happening, and I like it.

Beholder is a trip, taking you places where you take deep breaths, and dance, and dream. And tho it seems, at times, we won’t make it thru the storm, we’re left with a sort of optimistic introspection: Nah, I’m good.”

Went on a 3+ mile wander with my dear friend @cacomixl, a pastime we’ve done together for years. Saw a view of the city I’ve never seen before. I’m so thankful for friends like Jon who I can talk about anything and everything with. 🤍

NBC News did a feature on the Amplifier Global Art Project www.nbcnews.com/now/video/how-poster-art-could-keep-cities-safer-by-spreading-important-public-health-messages-83510853973

I’m so happy my poster was projected on NYU Langone Hospital. My last trip was to NYC in late January and only a few weeks later the city was hit hard by Covid. My heart goes out to NYC and those they’ve lost. I hope this gesture of art lets New Yorkers know we are thinking about them and stand with them. #amplifierart #fuckcovid #conquercovid19 #nyc #wegotthis #nbcnewsnow
