🙋🏻‍♂️🏜🌞Die Opuntia fragilis, auch als zerbrechlicher Feigenkaktus bekannt, ist eine einzigartige und widerstandsfähige Kaktusart.
🤏Diese kleine, aber robuste Pflanze ist in Nordamerika heimisch und überlebt in extremen Klimabedingungen. Ihre flachen, ovalen Segmente sind leicht abbrechbar, was zur Verbreitung beiträgt, da die abgebrochenen Teile leicht Wurzeln schlagen. 🌼🌼🌼Trotz ihrer geringen Größe blüht sie mit beeindruckenden gelben Blüten.
❄️❄️❄️Besonders bemerkenswert ist ihre Winterhärte, die es ihr ermöglicht, auch frostige Temperaturen zu überstehen.

Echinopsis rowleyi X Matucana madisoniorum: this is a hybrid resulting from an intergeneric cross.

Echinopsis rowleyi (syn. Echinopsis huascha) grows as a green cylindrical plant, covered with spines, with a large red flower.
Matucana madisoniorum is a small, globular cacti with a green-blue color. They only have a few spines (See 4th picture for a snap of my own Matucana.). My plant has one or two large spines sticking out each areola. The flowers are red-orange and with slight axial symmetry (zygomorphic).

The hybrid shown here (bought from Kuentz in Frejus, FR) shows both attributes of the parents - the color of the epidermis resembles that of Matucana, so does the length of the spines, but the overall aspect is more like that of an Echinopsis. As for the flower, it has a zygomorphic aspect like a Matucana but the structure of the flower is a mix of both parents. The color is so intense that it is hard to grasp without saturating the picture. Finally, the flowers open in the morning, whereas Echinopsis normally bloom at night!

There are other reports of Matucana crosses with other Echinopsis species, obtained by Michel Derouet. Matucana madisoniorum was crossed with Echinopsis backebergii wrightiana, Lobivia backebergii (see discussion here https://www.cactuspro.com/forum/read.php?1,616134,616140) or Lobivia tiegeliana (https://www.cactuspro.com/forum/read.php?1,667385,667387).
