POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I met Asha at a local triathlon club party in April. She hadn't raced triathlon in years but had been fast in the past. I hadn't coached triathlon in years but had also been pretty good at it in the past! Perfect match.

When she hired me as her coach, I gave her a warning: "I'm going to make you race on @gozwift and you'll be stronger than you've ever been on the bike in 3 months."

She'd never raced Zwift before and didn't have a smart trainer. So I brought one of my @sarisofficial H3 trainers to her house, said hello to her puppies, and set her up for her first esports race.

Then we were off!

My "near-real-time" coaching style works perfectly for us. We chat almost daily about training, which usually centers around which Zwift race to do and how to execute for the best result. Of course, we also plan swimming and running, though for Asha, these are secondary to bike strength.

Almost EXACTLY 3 months later, Asha casually messages me... "I think I'm going to race Challenge New Jersey State tri next weekend." I responded with a fire Elmo meme and that was that. No taper. No race build. Just "walking around fitness" built primarily on Zwift racing.

The thing is though, Zwift racing is really effective. The week before the tri, she set her lifetime best 20min power DURING a Zwift race where she finished 3rd. It was effectively her highest FTP ever, achieved while racing, not testing.

She texted me after… "I can't believe I did that. I trained triathlon for years! I was on the podium at Nationals! My FTP is higher than it ever has been in just three months of racing."

I responded, "Believe it. And get used to it."

Then came the triathlon: Fastest age-group swim split. Second fastest bike split ("it was so easy and fun"). Third overall in her age group.

Congrats @oshka55! You're now properly smashing faces on Zwift and IRL! Super proud to be your coach! 🔥

I haven't "raced" a multisport event since Kona in 2019. While the past 3 years have been incredible (new job, house, Luke!!), I really deprioritized myself and my fitness.

I planned to be in Boston this weekend, but went from a near 20 minute BQ, to missing the cutoff by the same margin. And that's been heartbreaking. But...there was an AWESOME silver lining, and that was to race @raceawesome Cedar Creek Du! I won this race in 2016; my breakthrough year. It was amazing to get back on top in a sellout field today.

Unsure how many more top steps I'll reach, bc the future is FAST! 2nd place was 12(!) year old @abigailoneil2028. Gracious, fierce, and she wore her podium pearls as well! Excited to follow her journey and restart mine with gratitude!

Thanks as always, @jackbrac.tricoach
