South Africa loves music, but are we doing enough to support the people behind it? 🇿🇦🎤

During our conversation with South African-born musician Vicci Kats, we spoke about the opportunities available to artists back home and why she looked towards the UK to grow her music career.

Vicci raises a difficult issue. Musicians create something people consume every day, yet many still struggle to get paid for performances and often need other jobs to support their music careers.

She also speaks about the difference she experienced in the UK, where gigging gave her another pathway to perform, earn and continue developing as an artist. 🇬🇧

So the question is bigger than one artist.

Is South Africa doing enough to support musicians and create sustainable careers for them?

Let us know what you think. 👇#couchcreatives🛋

Busking in London hits differently 🇬🇧🎤

For many South Africans, seeing an artist performing on the street might come with a completely different perception.

Vicci Kats explains how busking works in London, from getting your licence and choosing your spot, to performing in front of thousands of people passing through the city.

For her, it’s also a space to test new songs, meet new listeners and grow as an independent artist.

We caught up with London-based artist Vicci Kats during the Couch Creatives TV London Takeover 🇿🇦🇬🇧#couchcreatives🛋
