Sydney has its iconic landmarks, but what about the places that make you want to stay?

After 25 years living and working across four continents, Guy Kellaway returned home to Sydney with a different perspective.

Less rushing between meetings and airports. More harbour walks with Apollo, spontaneous ferry rides, long lunches and coffee without a deadline.

Perhaps the greatest luxury isn't travelling somewhere new, but having time to enjoy where you are.

In Sydney, Slowly: The Places I Came Home For, Guy shares the waterfront walks, neighbourhood favourites and coffee spots worth coming home for.

Now live on dinkfolk. Read and save for your next Sydney visit.

Sydney locals, which spots would make your list?

A beach, playground AND café all in one spot?! 🏖️☕️

📍 Clifton Gardens, Mosman

This has to be one of the best spots for a sunny day out with kids in Sydney!

🏖️ A beautiful beach with calm water and a netted swimming area, perfect for little swimmers.

🛝 A huge playground right by the beach, with slides, climbing equipment and plenty to keep the kids busy.

☕️ Café La Mer @cafelamer.chowderbay right by the beach for coffee, breakfast or lunch without having to leave!

🌳 Plus loads of grassy space for picnics, kicking a ball or just relaxing between swims.

Pack the swimmers, bring a picnic rug and make a day of it!

📌 Save this one for your next beach day with the kids!

Yellow umbrellas, lemons, sea breeze — a little taste of Italy tucked away in Chowder Bay.

I spent a quiet afternoon sketching the view and left the finished sketch with the cafe as a little gift.

opened beach season a few days ago and found my new favourite spot 🤍
Cafe La Mer @cafelamer.chowderbay at Chowder Bay - the coziest café with the best vibe🍋⛱️
The coffee and pastries are so good, but the best part - it’s right next to Niche beach, which has a shark net, so you can actually swim without worrying. the sand is incredibly clean, the water was so clear☺️
P.S there’s also a toilet, changing rooms and a playground right there, so it’s perfect for a full day out!

if you’re in Sydney, you need to save this one🫶🏻

Delicious food, excellent coffee, and the most relaxing atmosphere. The chicken and ham paninis are absolute must-tries! 🥪✨ Just beware of the resident kookaburras, they love the food as much as we do! 🤪

A casual beachside french café sits right on the sand at Clifton Gardens. Simply enjoy the beautiful waterview and find a seat in the park or along the beach. 🌿🌊

🥪 Chicken, aioli, celery, cheese, tomato mortadella panini
🥪 Ham, pesto, tomato, mozzarella panini
☕️ Latte
☕️ Iced mocha
