Some prints I’ve made as part of the art collective @mprintpower are up at MoMA’s Creativity Lab exhibition “Printmaking as Collective Action” from June 5 - August 4, 2024. I took some Polaroids snapshots of MPP facilitating a workshop at MoMA.

📸 Swipe to see photos from our workshop at MoMA Creativity Lab last week!

We invited folks to a participatory workshop focused on our methodology for creating art in public spaces. We introduced our 10 years of work through a collection of prints and ephemera, sparking ideas on how participants can incorporate these concepts into their own art-making practices and we ended the workshop with some printmaking.

This event was in conjunction with Mobile Print Power at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Printmaking as Collective Action, June 5 - August 4, 2024.

Over the past two years MPP has been working on The Mobile Print Power Box Set, a collection of over 100 objects including artwork, photographs, ephemera, and writing that documents our history, from 2013-2023 (edition of 20). Available through @booklynart fully translated into Spanish by Maria Alexandra Garcia @comadre_neblina

This box set collection presents our history through a series of questions, statements, prints, and other ephemera. The collection is divided into eight categories, represented by 7 questions and one statement. Each of the fabric bags is printed with a graphic and one of the questions or statements. The writing and objects found in each bag respond to the question or statement, through graphics, personal narrative, and objects/ephemera.

The categories are:
¿Cómo empezó este trabajo? How Did This Work Start?

¿Cómo Hace Arte Público MPP? How does MPP make public art?

¿Quiénes Somos Y Cómo Nos Gusta Pasar El Tiempo Juntxs? Who are we and do we like hanging out together?

¿Cuáles Son Las Partes Visibles E Invisibles De MPP? What Are The Visible And Invisible Parts of MPP?

¿Qué Espacio Ocupamos En El Mundo Del Arte Y Cuál Es Nuestro Papel En La Comunidad? What is our place in the Art World and What is our Place in the Community?

¿Cuál Es Nuestra Estrategia Para Exhibir Nuestras Obras En Galerías E Instituciones? How Do We Approach Exhibiting Our Work In Galleries And Institutions?

¿Somos Activistas? Are We Activists?

¡Creemos En El Podar Del Trabajo Colaborativo Y Colectivo! We Believe In The Power Of Collaborative And Collective Work!

Happy MPP Day everyone! Mobile Print Power (MPP) started as a weekly printmaking and political education workshop at Immigrant Movement International in Corona, Queens (IMI Corona). The first workshop took place on March 13, 2013 and at that time it was a mix of folks who had been attending other workshops at IMI Corona. Over time, and after lots of experiences, challenges, and struggles, we began referring to ourselves as a collective, as Mobile Print Power!

With our process and ways of working, we have always tried to create a collaborative community exchange and provide space for conversation, creativity, and collective action. For many years Corona Plaza was the epicenter of our public engagement and artistic production. Over the years, we have led dozens of socially engaged workshops and events in the plaza and elsewhere, exploring questions, themes, and social issues that are directly related to the experience of the public where we work. By using this process, we are able to collaborate with people in public spaces and create artwork that is not only displayed in the public but also created by the public.

We thank everyone who has supported our work over the years and contributed to it - too many people or organizations to name here. We have a lot of exciting things planned on the horizon, including the release of our MPP Box Set! Reflecting on these years we are filled with hope, belonging, connection, and above all, love!
