We’re turning 2! 🎉

Two years ago we opened our doors at One Place Physical Therapy, and we are so happy to have you all as part of this journey. Thank you so much for trusting us with your health, your goals, and your comebacks. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Come celebrate with us at our University location October 23rd. 📍8039 Cooper Creek Blvd, Suite 102, University Park, FL

DM us to RSVP so we can get an accurate head count. We can’t wait to see you there! 💙

Tissue capacity takes time.

Your body begins responding to exercise almost immediately, but meaningful structural change requires repeated exposure over weeks and months.

Strength can improve within the first 2–4 weeks, often because your nervous system becomes better at recruiting muscle. Measurable muscle growth may begin within roughly 3–6 weeks, although visible changes usually take longer.

Tendons generally adapt more slowly. Improvements in tendon stiffness, structure, and load tolerance are commonly studied over 8–16 weeks or longer of consistent resistance training.

Bone remodeling is slower still. Meaningful changes in bone density or strength are typically measured over 6–12 months, especially with appropriately dosed resistance and impact exercise.

These are general examples, not deadlines. Adaptation depends on the tissue involved, your training history, recovery, nutrition, age, health, and whether the load is appropriate.

The key is finding the middle ground: enough load to create adaptation, but not so much that the tissue cannot recover.

Load today. Build capacity for tomorrow.

Pain is real, but it does not always mean your tissues are being damaged.

Pain is a protective response influenced by more than just what is happening in one muscle, joint, or disc. Sleep, stress, fear, previous experiences, expectations, and the overall context can all affect how pain is felt.

That helps explain why some people have significant findings on an MRI with little or no pain, while others experience substantial pain despite relatively normal imaging. Pain can also continue even after the original tissue injury has healed.

This does not mean the pain is imaginary or “all in your head.” It means pain is complex, and recovery often requires more than simply treating one painful structure.

Education, appropriately dosed movement, progressive exercise, better sleep, and gradually returning to meaningful activities can help reduce sensitivity while rebuilding strength, confidence, and physical capacity.
Pain is information, not always evidence of damage.

Tight Hamstring Hack 🧠

Use agonist activation to your advantage.
By pressing your leg into a yoga block (hip flexor contraction), you trigger reciprocal inhibition via PNF principles.

The hip flexors (agonists) contract → the hamstrings (antagonists) neurologically relax.

90 seconds of intent beats minutes of passive stretching.

Sissy Squats: Bulletproof Your Knees🦵🔥

Deep knee flexion isn’t something to fear—it’s something to train. Sissy squats are an incredible way to build quad strength, knee resilience, and full-range control. 💪

✅ Strengthens the quads and tendons
✅ Improves knee mobility and tolerance
✅ Builds joint resilience for daily life & sports

If your knees feel stiff or weak, gradually exposing them to deep flexion under control can make them stronger and more durable over time. Start with support, progress slowly, and watch your knees level up. 🚀

Anyone here interested in joining a calisthenics-focused workout class/group? This class will focus on strength and mobility, not a cardio-based session. We will work towards being able to do different variations of pushups, pullups, squats, lunges, some flexibility, and core-related stuff. It doesn’t matter if you can’t do any of these as we will work towards them. All ages and levels welcome.

This will be held at my clinic as we will need access to pull up bars and benches to be able to cater to different levels of strength.

8039 Cooper Creek Ste 102
University Park, 34201

Completely FREE but will cap the class to only 10 people to be able to maximize the space and instructor:participant ratio. So I am asking only those who are committed to sign up. First come first serve.

Tentative schedule: Monday and Wednesdays 6pm-7pm for about 8-12 weeks depending on interest.
If we get enough traction, we can start as soon as next week.

Kevin Velasco (coach): highly active physical therapist who trains 95% calisthenics & handstands, and a certified strength and conditioning specialist.

@klift1392

You will be asked to sign a liability waiver to be able to participate. Soreness is expected 😅

This isn’t a sales trap. I won’t sell you anything unless you ask about our services. We just want to start a fun group that enjoys the same type of workout.

Balance in Action!

Here’s an example of a patient working hard to improve their balance and dynamic stability 💪. Using unstable surfaces paired with arm movements to hit light-up pods, we’re challenging coordination, core strength, and reaction time all at once!

💡 Why It Matters:
Dynamic stability exercises like these help train your body to adapt to real-life situations—whether it’s walking on uneven ground, reaching for something, or recovering from a stumble. It’s not just about standing still; it’s about moving confidently through life!

👏 Great job to this patient for putting in the work! Balance training = better mobility, confidence, and independence.

In this video, we break down the key differences between an Anatomic Total Shoulder Replacement and a Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement. Whether you’re a patient exploring your surgical options or a healthcare professional looking for a quick refresher, this video has you covered.

We’ll explain:

How each procedure works.
When an anatomic replacement is recommended (ideal for those with intact rotator cuffs).
Why a reverse replacement is the go-to choice for severe rotator cuff damage or instability.
The mechanics behind each surgery and how they restore function.
By the end, you’ll have a clear understanding of which procedure might be the right fit for specific shoulder conditions.

SMT-4 in Dallas, TX was a solid way to close out 2024. The best overall performance by the AAMT students to date. 🎉

SMT-4 is the certification in Spinal Manipulation (cert. SMT) where students must navigate a hands-on practical, verbal/oral test and a 400 question written test to show competency in spinal manipulation. It’s always a fun time testing and catching up with Dr. James Dunning at SMT-4 at the end of each year. 🤝

The American Academy of Manipulative Therapy is the worldwide leader in spinal manipulation and dry needling continuing education for healthcare providers.🙌🏽 📚 🧑‍🎓

Struggling with pull-ups?

Here’s how to master the full range of motion for better activation and strength gains!

Using a cable system or resistance bands to offload weight can help you focus on proper form and full extension at the bottom. Remember: quality over quantity! Start here, build strength, and level up your pull-up game. 🔥
