Telling part of our story ❤️‍🩹🪽 October is pregnancy loss awareness month. We have experienced two losses this calendar year.

Though this season of life has been hard, this is a post of hope. Hope that one day soon we will get to love on an earth-side baby. Hope that when we reach heaven’s gates we will see our angels. Hope in a God that restores.

In February, my water broke spontaneously. Carlton and I cut our Valentine’s Day dinner short to rush to the hospital. The ride there was silent, as if we could hold onto hope by not speaking. In L&D triage, the OBGYN Resident performed a bedside ultrasound and within just a few moments of looking at the imaging, she found our girl’s heartbeat and we breathed a sigh of relief. After a few more moments, her expression changed. She said she needed to call in the attending physician… oof.

We were told that with strict bed rest and the best medical care there was a chance that delivery of our baby could be delayed 3 more weeks, until viability. But, we were also told that the more likely scenario would be the delivery of our baby in the next 24 hours. Hours later, my cord prolapsed and I was moved into a delivery suite.

After cytotec, pitocin and hours of pushing, our girl was born. There’s a unique heartache knowing that this labor would not end with the long-awaited first cry. For us, just silence.

Eliza has made an impact on us that will never fade. We are grateful for our time with her. It brings me comfort to talk about the few weeks we had together.

After delivery, we went home and were loved on by so many people - food drop offs, flowers, kind texts. We appreciated every bit of our community checking on us.

The days following were the most painful. I was unprepared for postpartum hormone shifts, milk production for a baby that didn’t get to come home, pain, etc.

Just two days after being home, I woke up with a fever of 103. Carlton and I got in the car again and had another silent drive to the hospital. I was admitted for an postpartum uterine infection. After 3 days of imaging, tests, and IV antibiotics, we headed back home.

They thought the trials would break me. God used them to build me. Pressure made me stronger, faith kept me going…🌹
