Scales + Alphabet Soup: What is a scale?

Scales are important building blocks of music, but people often don’t understand how or why we use them. So I put together a short series on them.

Think of scales as a pool of available notes to choose from while writing melodies or improvising, that way we’re not bombarded with all 12 notes is western music. Similar to the way a painter has a palette of colors ready to paint with, musicians have scales. More on this next time!

Tonight’s mtg of The Gentlemen’s Book Club was awesome. We read Woolly, the latest book by Ben Mezrich, and @benmezrich himself FaceTime’d with us to answer questions. So rad to discuss the book with the author! Thanks for your time, Ben.

Last night was one of my favorite meetings of The Gentlemen's Book Club yet. The book was Wonder by R.J. Palacio. It was my pick and I had been hesitant to select it because it's a book about Jr High aged kids with an intended audience of Jr High aged kids. But it had come highly recommended by people I really respect and I went for it -- great decision. Wonder is a coming of age story of sorts about a young boy with facial abnormalities attending 5th grade in a public school and public setting for the first time. I can't remember the last time I read a book and was able to empathize completely with every single character. At times, this book made me feel like I was in the 5th grade again and at other points had me feeling so parental and protective of my daughter it was frightening. In all, Wonder is about how, if we all made a conscious effort to be a little more kind than is necessary, the world would be a better place. It's a book for kids that had a group of 30-something year old guys laughing, crying, and really thinking... sharing stories from grade school and how we recall feeling about and treating kids who were different. This book should be required reading for kids, parents, and an alarming number of our elected officials.

CHOC Hospital Tour was pretty impressive. I am so proud to be a part of an office that contributes to such an amazing organization. #chochospital #payitforward #lovewhereyouwork #remaxprestige #giveback

With every commission check, each agent in our office makes a donation to CHOC on our client's behalf. Today we had the opportunity to take a private tour of the newest facilities that help these kids. Thank you @chocchildrens and @chocfoundation for showing us what our donations are going towards!

"The truth is out there." The Gentlemen's Book Club discussed The 37th Parallel by @benmezrich this month. Final conclusion? We're all aliens.
