I had a lot of fun and learned so much from the experience of writing my own original lyrics to this tune, Cassandra by Dave Brubeck. Thank you @bryancartermusic for your support and mentorship and everyone in our combo for putting it all together!

The longer I get on without you
Cassandra you were never mine
The path to peace that I once walked now frays into a maze inside my mind
I’m guessing while looking for answers
Questions that change with the time
I’m searching waiting for the fall
Can’t get myself to stand up tall this time
Never thought I’d be the one to ask the meaning of the word Love
Looking for the deeper reason
Find an answer
Start all over
Cassandra
Who knows if I will find you
I’ll search till’ the day that I die
Until then still you’ll find me slouching
Looking for the peace inside my mind

Wowowow this week at the Brubeck Jazz Summit has been so amazing. I have learned and grown so much, and have met some truly amazing people!! So much thanks to @brubeckjazzsummit , @roxycoss , and @lucasrobertopino for your amazing direction of the program as well as @bryancartermusic for all of the wisdom and knowledge shared in our combo rehearsals and classes. One of the highlights of this week for me has been writing original lyrics to the tunes Cassandra (Dave Brubeck) and Beatrice (Sam Rivers). Creating lyrics for music composed by others was a new project for me that I learned from immensely. Thanks Bryan!! I am so excited to implement all of the new knowledge and guidance shared with me this week into my life moving forward. Thank you everyone who made this time so special @mikimikiyummy @eltipo79 @gbasscleff 💗💗💗

Thank you so much to everyone who joined me and my quartet at Wylde Works to venture through the music that has inspired us to play our instruments and stirred our minds! I have had the honor of growing immensely with Simon Blondell and Jules Sherman over the past few years and their friendship has been a source of inspiration just as much as their musicianship. Cainan Birchim was also sharing the bandstand with us. He is working incredibly hard behind that piano and it’s paying off. He is just 17 years old and is already giving us a serious run for our money! The composition in that brief audio is “Aung San Suu Kyi” by the great Wayne Shorter.
