My parents have lived in this pretty magical log cabin on the top of a mountain for over 40 years. It’s the house I grew up in, the home I’ve spent more time in than any other place I’ve ever lived. They recently decided that the time has come to move somewhere that requires a little less work to upkeep, a decision that totally makes sense, but comes with a bit of heartache. This week, I am flying back to Colorado to do a deep-dive into my belongings that still take up space in various closets and the attic, a journey that promises to be a deeply nostalgic stroll down memory lane. Some things I am relatively certain I will come across in this process: -A binder I made in high school entitled “MY MYSPACE” that has printouts of my entire Myspace profile. -My first MP3 player - a massive square that looks like it’s from THE FUTURE if THE FUTURE were imagined in 1997 (picture something Zenon Girl of the 21st Century would have used to listen to music on?). It takes about 45 minutes for one song to upload to it and holds approximately 11 songs. -My first cell phone - a prepaid brick from Virgin Wireless that reads “VIRGIN” in large print on the back (because WHO WOULDN’T WANT THAT???) -HitClips ... HOW these never took off as a legit way to listen to music is simply beyond me... a cartridge that allows you to listen to 15 grainy seconds of a Britney Spears song is all we really need, you know? I’ll likely be sharing photos this nostalgic romp... stay tuned.
