~Quick disclaimer~

All jump training uses the whole complex of your legs. Muscle, ligaments, tendons, fascia and everything else in the leg contributes in all jumps. The point of this training is to look and isolate these things as much as possible, but there will always have residual effects on the other elements.

Learning to coach athletes in the weight room seems to always come with learning the heavy stuff first. But with that you have to know not to become obsessed and figure out the other portions. Once I was able to look more into the full spectrum of jumping, sprinting, and movement in general, my athletes training (as well as my own) leveled up completely.

To sum it up, an elastic relationship with the ground is one that is quick, reactive and almost having a weightless feeling. I always tell my athletes in elastic work to not stay in the “quicksand” or be “stuck in the mud”. There are times when longer ground contact time should and will be used, but being a bouncy ball type of athlete will work better depending.

And a shoutout to all of the athletes used in the post, sorry if I missed tagging anybody. My purpose in doing what I do is to be an incredibly small part of your journey and it means the word to me that I can be along for the ride. 💪🏻
