Country, folk and a little bit of Kolkata magic. 🤠🎸

Meet Calcutta Cowboy, the Mumbai-born, Bengali-rooted musician gearing up for his India debut at Lollapalooza. Raised across India, Malaysia and Canada, he’s found a musical home somewhere between country and folk, kurta and cowboy boots, and the many worlds he’s grown up between.

From walking “like a crazy person” from Salt Lake to Victoria Memorial to finding his way through music, he’s on a journey to make country feel universal again.

Meet the 2026 South Asian Music Accelerator cohort 🇨🇦

From country storytelling with a desi twist to Punjabi folk meeting EDM, Tamil sounds, R&B, soul, hip-hop and pop, these creators bring their own perspectives to what South Asian music can be.

And this fall, they’re coming together.

Now in its second year, SAMA connects South Asian artists, songwriters and producers from across Canada with mentorship, creative collaboration, music industry knowledge and a community to grow with. A space to build lasting careers while staying connected to the stories, sounds and identities that make their work their own.

Meet BA1N$, a self-taught songwriter, producer and engineer from Kitchener who brings Punjabi musical traditions into his work. He’s developed much of his catalogue alongside SAMA alumnus @jjgrewal and now it’s his turn to join the cohort.

Through SAMA, he’s looking to deepen his marketing knowledge, gain industry insight and make meaningful connections.

Calcutta Cowboy can be an idea, a costume someone else might one day see themselves inside. “Anybody can be a Calcutta Cowboy,” he says. The mystery has travelled surprisingly far, surprisingly fast… and now less than a year after releasing his first single, he is headed for Lollapalooza India.
