Introducing Katherine Bradford, the first artist in A Look at ME: Paintings from Maine - on view online 1–29 October at Taymour Grahne Projects, organised by Gail Spaien.

Her painting Maine Log Cabin at Night (2024, acrylic on canvas, 60 x 48 in.) captures the glowing, dreamlike quality she's become known for over five decades of painting ships, swimmers, and quiet Maine light.

Bradford began painting while living in Maine full-time in the 1970s and still returns to the coast every summer, even after moving to New York. Her work has been the subject of solo shows at the Portland Museum of Art, the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, and sits in the collections of the Met, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Dallas Museum of Art.

July was sailing and swimming and sewing on 🔁. I made so many caftans I think summer sewing might deserve its own post! Cheese went sailing. The Maine art summer kicked into high gear, and my parents and Suzy came to Maine!

Art-wise, I loved @allison.mckeen’s show “All My Quildren” and the pilgrimage and pleasure of Emily Trenholm’s @eltrenholm show on North Haven and the buoyant atmosphere of Art Party at @cmcanow (somehow I took no pics???). Barbara Sullivan’s @imagesofwork show at Caldbeck was such a delight! I loved Ian Trask @ian_trask and Posey Moulton’s @pamela_moulton great installations at the Seguinland Institute. And of course, what a party at the @karmakarma show in Thomaston (check out that killer Gertrude Abercrombie and @spenceprojects in the wild). I got to Blue Hill to see the great group show at @workingloose that had this killer @kathrynlynchpics!

On the last slide, be it known that Cheese likes to rest his head on a throw pillow. 🖤

So very grateful for the opportunity to work on lots of wonderful projects this summer. Really didn’t think I’d get to do work I love. Seeing friends too! Addison is good at prioritizing fun even when he’s so busy, and that has been a good influence on me. Huge congratulations to him on opening his project @staylanterncamp. He’s worked incredibly hard to bring this beautiful place into the world. What a feat.

Thank you to @cbloon who took the videos of @the.fins.band at @eggemogginreachregatta earlier in August!
