When a couple stops trying to pose perfectly and simply enjoy each other in front of my camera, something beautifully authentic happens.

The most meaningful engagement photos aren’t about knowing what to do with your hands or looking at the camera. They’re about laughter that sneaks up on you, quiet embraces, playful teasing, and the little moments that remind you why you chose each other in the first place.

During this engagement session with Caleb & Megan at Crystal Cove Beach, my favorite images weren’t created because everything was perfectly planned. The best photos happened because this couple let their guard down and gave themselves permission to simply be together. As they flirted, laughed, and soaked in this chapter of their story, I photographed their love from every perspective, preserving not only how it looked, but how it felt.

If you’re planning your engagement session or wedding, I hope you’ll give yourselves that same gift. The freedom to be fully present creates photographs that will mean even more decades from now.

If you’re looking for a photographer who will gently guide you while creating space for genuine connection to unfold, I’d be honored to tell your story.

xo,
Amelia Lyon

Some engagement sessions feel like more than photos. They feel like the beginning of a legacy.

Megan & Caleb are getting married this September, and from the moment we started planning their session, their focus wasn’t on “perfect poses”, it was on documenting this season honestly and beautifully.

The laughter. The quiet moments. The way they naturally fall into each other.

Seeing their reaction to their gallery reminded me why this work matters so much. These photographs become part of their story long after the wedding day is over.

One of my favorite parts of the process is helping couples feel completely at ease so they can actually be present with each other instead of worrying about the camera. That’s where the magic lives.

September can’t come soon enough!

If you’re planning a wedding and want photographs that feel emotional, effortless, and deeply you, I’d love to tell your story.

I lost a roll of film in Japan.
My coworker’s wife happens to live there, and she kindly faxed her address to the elderly innkeeper who discovered it in our room in Kawaguchiko, had him ship the roll to her, and had it developed in Japan before sending me the scans recently.🙏

Here are some frames that travelled farther than I did— also pics of the posse that helped me not forgot the rest of my things.

Some other updates since early last summer: 1-2: Research internship in Nebraska which was phenomenal. All furnishings seen are brought to you by FB marketplace. 3-5: Training for, and bombing, the Big Cottonwood marathon. Great memories and lessons learned. 6: Brandon Sanderson convention. Wearing all blue (i.e. Kholin blue). 7: FHE 2023-2024. Such an amazing group. Love you guys!! 8: Philadelphia research conference with Woodbury lab—thank you Dr. Woodbury for this wonderful opportunity and two years in your lab!! 9: BYU volleyball game. One of the only sporting events I went to this year. 10: Temple trip. Wish I had gone on more this year. Would recommend going as often as possible. 11: My brief and glorious stint as “Grocery Joe.” Not all involved are pictured, so please let me know if you want a shoutout. 12-13: Road tripped to Texas for the eclipse. Saw some old friends. 14: Obligatory track season photo with some of the boys. 15-18: Crushing the Utah Valley Marathon, sub 2:54:00. Contrast with picture 4. 19-20: Iconic pre-photos from a Grand Canyon run, ~49 miles in 15 hours. Not pictured between 18 and 19 are various other adventures including the MCAT, hiking Mt. Elbert, etc. This year had a lot of challenges (re: MCAT), setbacks, and low points, but I am so grateful for all of it. Feeling blessed and humbled by how this year has been. Optimistic about 2025.
