Movado is, without a doubt, my favourite vintage watch brand. Cases and dials made by suppliers who also worked with some of watchmaking’s greatest maisons. In-house movements. An incredible variety of designs. And a level of quality that, to my eye, still deserves far more recognition than its prices suggest. This example captures so much of what I love: a radial guilloché dial, beautifully applied gilt numerals and hour markers, and a steel case that brings it all together. [Available] 1940’s Girard-Perregaux “Compax” by Universal Genève w/ WWII provenance History on the wrist! This stainless steel GP “Compax” produced by UG was gifted to an employee of the Oregon Shipbuilding Company following the end of World War II. The ad hoc shipyard built Liberty and Victory cargo ships under the Emergency shipbuilding program as the U.S. was entering the global conflict. Once the war ended the shipyard closed, making this wrist watch a living memory of a unique moment in time for American industry!
