At 1405 PST on 14 May 2025, units from Madera County Fire were dispatched to a vegetation fire in the area of Rd. 28 1/2 & Rd. 602. Engine 3 was first at scene, and reported a fire of 3-4 acres in light flashy fuels, with a moderate rate of spread, threatening one structure. Engine 3 immediately called for additional resources, with the fire quickly spreading into state jurisdiction.

Fire resources from Madera Co. Fire, Merced Co. Fire, CAL FIRE MMU, and CAL FIRE Air Ops. were assigned to the incident. Notably, multiple CAL FIRE dozers, air attack units including CAL FIRE’s C130 out of Fresno, and even the Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit Chief (4200) responded to the incident.

The fire’s forward progress was stopped at around 1700 PST. Crews continued containment efforts, remaining at scene overnight, and declaring the fire 100% contained the following day. The fire’s final acreage was 636 acres. The spread of the fire was aided by hot, dry, and especially windy conditions.

At this time I have no information on whether or not any structures received significant damage, if there were any injuries, or what the cause of the fire was.

Note the 300 gallon capacity Fire Attack tank is removed for this exercise. Tall skids make it look like an owl with its legs showing.
Whoever was flying this circuit at 1007 Local Time on 05/13/2025 you put my autos to shame 😔

On 5/18/25 units from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded reports of a fully involved car fire on Walnut Blvd in Brentwood. Upon Truck 92’s arrival, the fire had spread to the neighboring vegetation sparking a full vegetation fire response. A 2nd alarm was shortly requested because of the high winds and fast rate of spread. The fire quickly grew to approximately 50 acres and forward progression of the fire was stopped in about an hour. The fire was fully contained later that night.

On Saturday our Boggs Mountain Helitack Crew responded to a pair of vegetation fires nearly 300 miles apart. They started at the Honey Fire in Hidden Valley Lake shortly after noon before being dispatched down to San Benito County to assist at the #IdriaFire. There our helitack crew aided with fire line construction and firing operations to help secure control lines. In the start of this video you see Airtanker 160 making a fire retardant drop on the fire.
