Our baseball team didn’t do as well as we had all hoped this year but that hasn’t impacted the popularity of this beautiful bird with the people I have spoken to recently.

Bluejays are one of the most colourful birds that can be seen in Calgary, but did you know their feathers aren’t actual blue? Their feathers contain a brown melanin pigment. Through a process called structural colouration, microscopic air pockets and a spongy keratin arrangement scatter light, reflecting blue wavelengths toward your eyes while absorbing or letting other colors pass through to the brown layer.

Nature is so amazing!

“True Blue” is a 10x10 acrylic on birch panel painting that is part of the @calgaryartcommunity Miniature Masterpiece show on until tomorrow October 17th.

Head over to their website to see all of art included in the show. Everything is the same size, price and Canada-wide shipping is included!
