I have so much to say about this year and no energy to properly articulate it all. These slides sum it up though...

We learned a lot this year, through gained experience we shifted the way we practice a bit, what we recommend, what we feel comfortable with, who we collaborate with... We grew our team to allow for more sustainability as the demand for our practice has only been increasing year after year.

I recently saw midwives online debating whether or not to share their stats. Some see it as "ego driven". I'm not even sure how to see it that way.

I believe when choosing to birth out of the hospital especially, you need to see the statistics. You need to see that the provider you're choosing is transparent & honest. I don't post these statistics to "brag", there's nothing to brag about here. There's loss, there's traumatic births, there's unplanned transfers, there's unwanted cesareans... I post these statistics because birth is unpredictable and I believe we need to show that as best we can to those choosing our care to make an informed decision.

Also, something I forgot to include in our slides, is that the most common reason for transfer was NOT maternal exhaustion for first time moms as it has been most years in the past (only 3% this year). Many of the primips actually had really quick/ smooth births, with a few IUGR transfers and some retained placentas being the common reason for postpartum transfer. Half of our antepartum/ intrapartum transfers were actually multips this year and for varied reasons such as gestational hypertension/ preeclampsia, preterm birth, infection, etc.

Anyways, despite taking care of nearly 100 clients this year, I'm feeling well rested and generally low stress (which was not how I was feeling this time last year). So, I look forward to another year as a homebirth midwife with the support of my truly incredible team & hoping to have as many smooth, daytime births as possible! 🙏🏽

We're ready for all of the 2026 babies! ✨

Wishing @cali_birth, a very happy birthday! What an absolute honor & privilege it is to be your preceptor! You were like a missing puzzle piece that I didn't know I needed and now I can't imagine not having you by my side in this work... You teach me so much & you've become such an integral part of this practice, so grateful to have you.

Thanks for dealing with LabCorp, and the state of Pennsylvania, scheduling all of our consultations, doing all the BS admin work, supporting our clients so well, the list goes on! You push me to be a better provider everyday & you've managed to make my midwifery life 10000x easier somehow, everyone needs a Cali in their life, so THANK YOU for being you. Can't wait to celebrate you 🎉

send her some love today 🤍

(p.s. if she ever leaves me to go home to Colorado, I'm going to have to go with her ✌🏽)
