Sarah had been asleep for two hours when Zeus woke her. Not with barking — Zeus had not barked. He had done something he had never done in four years which was push his full weight against the bedroom door until the latch gave and then stand at the side of her bed breathing in a particular way that she had never heard from him before and that reached into her sleep and pulled her out of it with the efficiency of a fire alarm. She had sat up and looked at him in the dark. Every hair on his body was standing. He was facing the bedroom door. Still not barking. She had grabbed her phone and followed him — because you follow the dog, this she understood instinctively in the way that bypasses thought — down the hall to the front door which she had locked before bed and which was still locked. Zeus pressed his nose to the gap at the bottom and went completely rigid. The quality of his stillness was different from anything she had seen — not the stillness of waiting but the stillness of absolute focused assessment, the stillness of a predator who has found something and is processing it with total concentration. She called 911 and stood behind him with her hand on his back and felt through her palm the low continuous vibration of a growl too controlled to be heard. The officer who arrived seven minutes later found fresh marks on the side window frame. The motion sensor camera caught a figure leaving the yard at three fourteen am. Zeus had woken her at three eleven . ❤️ Share this for Zeus who heard what she couldn't and tell us — has your dog ever woken you up for a reason that turned out to be real? 👇 #RottweilerProtector #GuardDog #DogSavesLives #HomeProtection #Poutygolden #DogsMakeLifeBetter #faithfulprotector
